Walking Therein

Saturday, August 11, 2007 - Saturday Psalm and Praise - GREAT is Thy Faithfulness, O God, My father!

   1 Samuel 26:23  The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed.

    There are no words that can deliver the real picture better of God's faithfulness than His Word. The testimony of His People. When David was being chased by Saul with no recourse or reason, but that of a crazy man, he stayed his hand and trusted in the faithfulness of the Father to be His source.

    Psalm 5:9  For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
Oh, if our faithfulness could even come close to the LORD's. Yet, we constantly trust in our own wisdom and the wisdom and faithfulness of our family and friends before we consider the One who has created us and set us on this path of life.

  Psalm 36:5  Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.
   There are so many times we face in our lives that we cannot face alone, whether it is at a time of loss or a time of discouragement, a time when we feel like we are all alone, and no one understands.  This is when we wish for faithfulness. This is when our desire for a faithful friend cries out. This is when we want comfort for our fears and pain. It is all about what we need at that time.

Psalm 119:75   I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.
    The Bible paints a different picture of Faithfulness. It is a picture of steadfastness, but also a picture of God's sovereignty. A picture of His discretion and choice to hear our prayers and be faithful to them and answer them in His righteousness. A picture of His plans for our lives, whether that includes health or affliction. A picture of the truth that His Ways are higher than our ways.
When we were lost in our sins, our spirits begged for the faithfulness of the Lord, His salvation, to take away the stain.

Psalm 89:1  I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

   Psalm 89:2   For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
Psalm 89:5  And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
 Psalm 89:8  O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
  Psalm 89:24  But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
   Psalm 89:33  Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

    He is Faithful because He is God. He is faithful. We count faithfulness in our humanness, our own ideas of faithfulness. He was there in the lives of the prophets and the martyred men and women. He was faithful to His Son as He gave his life and died upon an old wooden cross. He faithfully walks with each of us.

    It is we who are unfaithful. It is we who disgrace His Holy Name over and over. It is our sin that He is faithful to forgive. Faithful to His own Word that He will forgive us.  Though our sins are great, His Faithfulness is greater.

Psalm 143:1   Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
    Lord, I will never be worthy of your forgiveness or of your faithfulness. Thank you for giving these to me as gifts that I do not have to earn. Thank you for your Word and your faithfulness to it.

Lamentations 3:23    They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Psalm 119:90   Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

I love the Saturday Psalm and Praise! It encourages me to *try* and relate my topics in my entries with scripture. It also allows me to read through new chapters and verses in the Bible that I haven't read through.

What a beautiful post Jacque! I do love the verses that show how our Saviour is ever-faithful to us and I love that you put the lyrics to the song in there...It's all so beautiful!

Thanks for linky-ing me...LOL. It's quite an honour to know that Paul liked the banner, I still wish I could have done more with it. I like that it matches the pale yellow that you have on your entry and sidebars.

Years ago I used Weaver's Interlock curriculum for Kindergarten and Pre-school and we sang this song as part of it every morning. It was so sweet when we went to a Thanksgiving service and my children were singing their hearts out and the other children were not singing. Several people commented afterward that they knew I must have taught them the song b/c they were (at the time) too young to read the overhead and we seldom sang hymns in that church.

At that time, I started to think about my upbringing and how much I loved hymns and how much more "correct" their message often is. So I asked for an old hymn book (our church never uses them anyway) and started singing hymns with my children every morning. Actually, we have not done it all Summer and it has just occured to me how much I miss it.

Anyway, enough rambling! LOL!

Thanks for these Saturday posts. I LOVE reading them. I may even post one sometime. My favorite hymn is "It is Welll With My Soul". I usually cannot sing it without becoming choked with emotion b/c it really ministered to me after Sarah's death.

Anyway... I am rambling again. OOOPS!
