Monday, August 20, 2007 - Book Lists and Linkies -My 10ish Children Book List Linky

I was asked by Chas which books my 10yo son Eric likes to read. It has taken me awhile, but I am finally getting 'round to it!
I am not sure what kind of books a 10 year old boy reads, because, well, we're homeschoolers, don't ya' know - we follow our own path!
So, we went through the books we have, and I had Eric choose books he has already read or would want to read.

Eric likes history-based books, so he would read any book based on history. I don't think it's really so much that I have a book list as it is that I know what he likes to read and I can direct him to wholesome books he will love. He loves adventures of other people in other places and times. He especially likes stories about old Rome and the medieval times. He loves American History books about presidents and historical people when they were younger and the times they lived in.
He has not read all of these books, though he has read some of them. His sisters have read the others.
Jeb Stuart by Gertrude Hecker Winders
Beric the Briton - or any books by G.A. Henty
The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas

Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliffe
Titus, Comrade of the Cross by Florence M. Kingsley
The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare
The Kingdom Series by Chuck Black
    reviewed by Rachel pt.1  pt.2
Chronicles of Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
One Blog To Rule Them All Reviews
Caddy Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink
Black Beauty -Anna Sewell
He will be allowed to read The Classics as he wants to. He actually just started reading at all last year. Now, he devours chapter books, and he is so proud of himself. I never thought the little boy who I could not keep in the house... even having to chase the little scoundrel outside in the snow, running around in his skivvies at age 4! - would be found all over with a book in his hands, sitting quietly.
He also reads his Bible, KJV, a Proverb chapter in the am and a Psalm chapter before bedtime.
A good idea I have found for organizing your books online and having them at your fingertips, so-to-speak is LibraryThing.  I do not actually have all of my books listed on My LibraryThing, but it is a great idea to organize and share the books you do have, and you can share your list on your blog, too. The account is free, so go get one and play around with it!

In writing this post and answering a question about the books my 10yo son is interested in reading, I thought it would make a good Mr. Linky so we could pass it around and share our experiences and ideas. I also learned recently that you can share Mr. Linkies! That means that you can put these particular Mr. Linkies on the bottom of your post about the books you like for your family and children and as the list is added to on any blog, it will be added to on all of them! So, I am posting several Mr. Linky's on this post so that you may add you post of the books you read as a family or the ones your children like to read. Won't that be a fun resource for all of us homeschool families and, well, everyone?
If you are a homeschooled child, you are also welcome to participate! Please write up your post telling which books you really enjoy and put it into the appropriate Mr. Linky.
Make sure you link the particular post URL to your name, so we can find it later, too.

If you want to put any of these Linky's on your blog, you are welcome to subscribe to Mr. Linky. I am posting the codes in my comments. You will have to embed the code into your html source of your post. After you do that, it will not show up on your Edit Entry, but it will in your Preview.

Mountain Princess is my 9 yo daughter, by the way. I didn't see another slot to put her list, so I thought it was close enough to 10ish, but then didn't realize that it was really for boys...or is it? You may want to clarify.

I think this is a great idea. I hope others join the fun.

Jacque,

I had already added her to the Mr. Linky anyway. Thanks for starting this great topic.

I hope to do a family read-aloud one too.

For some reason, Mr. Linky doesn't show up in your original posts, but does after Ieave a comment. That is kind of annoying because that means I have to come into the comments to see if anyone else has left a link. Is this just a glitch on my computer?

About Me

The scoop on me: Believer for 20 years; married 19 years; 8 children so far, hoping for more; live on a great hobby farm, with 7 goats, 2 dogs and 68 chickens. Oh, and 1 bathroom. That's always fun. :) The scoop on our homeschool: Bible-first, Living Learning Moments, meaning if it happens, it's a lesson. We learn life! How long have we been homeschooling? Well, our oldest is 18. How much longer do we have to go? Well, our youngest is almost 1. We love it and wouldn't have it any other way.
