"Family Reading Time Book List" & Linky

We have only read a few books together as a family. The first book we ever read was The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, and that was a few years back. We all have fond memories of reading it as we each sat and listened while doing our own thing all - together.  We remember the time Daddy read a couple of pages when he was so tired, it ended up coming out as, "the chicken on the road...." when there was nothing about a chicken on the road! We all laughed about that for some time together!
One night, we read about 4 chapters, as I read and Amanda and Jocelyn made cookies and the littles played and helped. Ah, great memories!

The Bible is a great book to read with the entire family. There is nothing like reading the Word of God altogether and talking about anything we heard but didn't understand or never realized before.  That is the way God intended His Word to be passed down ~ 'from generation to generation' ~ in families, sharing and being blessed by each other and His Word.

Some other books I would recommend for Family Reading Time would be any book on any other list I have below.
Sometimes you may want to read age-appropriate books, but younger children often enjoy stories that are quite long and they would never just pick up and read, but can digest in a family setting, listening with Mom and Dad and siblings of any age.
Historical fiction books, where the time setting is given in description of events, by the language, attire and customs, are a great resource to let your children see a picture of life at that time or in that part of the world.

Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy M. Montgomery is a good story, enjoyed by the girls and boys alike in our home.
Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Avonlea
Anne of The Island
Chronicles of Avonlea
Further
Chronicles of Avonlea
I am sure there are more than these.

Jeb Stuart by Gertrude Hecker Winders
Beric the Briton - or any books by G.A. Henty
The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas
    Reviewed by Amanda
Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliffe
Titus, Comrade of the Cross by Florence M. Kingsley
The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare
The Kingdom Series by Chuck Black
    reviewed by Rachel pt.1  pt.2
The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
One Blog To Rule Them All Reviews
Caddy Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
The Black Stallion
by Walter Farley

Beatrix Potter Books:
The Tale of Peter Rabbit
The Tale of Benjamin Bunny
The Tale of Jemima Puddleduck
The Great Big Treasury of Beatrix Potter
There are definitely more than these listed.

The Poky Little Puppy by Janette Sebring Lowrey
Curious Little Kitten Around the House by Linda Hayward
The Wind in the Willows by Ernest H. Shepard
Blackberry Hollow
by Paul Peabody
Frog and Toad series (these are really cute)

A vein that most of us may not think of to read as a family are any of the historical documents or speeches given by great people in history.
Some I might include would be:
The Federalist Papers
The Constitution of the United States of America
The Declaration of Independence

Other Family Book Lists online I liked include:
The Parker Family Book List

In writing the post to answer a question about the books my 10yo son is interested in reading, I thought it would make a good Mr. Linky so we could pass it around and share our experiences and ideas in a Book List post. I also learned recently that you can share Mr. Linkies! That means that you can put these particular Mr. Linkies on the bottom of your post about the books you like for your family and children and as the list is added to on any blog, it will be added to on all of them! Won't that be a fun resource for all of us homeschool families and, well, everyone?

If you are a homeschooled child, you are also welcome to participate! Please write up your post telling which books you really enjoy and put it into the appropriate Mr. Linky.
Make sure you link the particular post URL to your name, so we can find it later, too.

If you want to put any of these Linky's on your blog, you are welcome to subscribe to Mr. Linky. I am posting the codes in my comments. You will have to embed the code into your html source of your post. After you do that, it will not show up on your Edit Entry, but it will in your Preview.
