Blogger Friend School #4 Panning for Gold

4:39 PM, Wednesday, September 26, 2007 .. Posted in Training Hearts Blogger Friends School .. 11 comments .. Link

The Internet offers a lot of treasures! It may not be in the form of actual gold, although I’m sure some could find some on the Internet - probably on ebay! Being a Blogger Friend is all about sharing our treasures. The assignment this week is to share your Internet treasures. Below is a list featuring things that homeschooling moms might be looking for: information, support, ideas, or actual items that pertain to our lives. Each one of us holds some or all of these treasures that need to be shared.  Take this list and add your "golden" treasured sites so that we may all share the wealth.

A website that you visit everyday:

 My girls' websites:

Homeschoolblogger

Homesteadblogger

Homeschool Gold Sites

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting First place you look for a book to buy:

The Old Schoolhouse Store

  Favorite Homeschool Support Area:

My HSB friends. I use the links on my sidebar to visit my favorite Mom-bloggers, though I need to update it and add a few I have been reading in the past few months!

Homeschool site full of information that you use regularly:

HOWTA
HeartofWisdom.com is a gem of a site. Robin blogs there and the articles and homeschool wisdom is wonderful.

I also love Homeschool Oasis for the high school info... but I mostly am reading her book, A Home Designed Form+U+La (HIGHLY recommended) to supplement the high school classes I have already come up with for our homeschool.

Site that you buy your curriculum from:

NEW: The Old Schoolhouse Store or Heart of Wisdom Store and Doorposts are where I usually look first.

USED: Homeschoolbuy or ebay. There are also a lot of blogs where they list curriculum. I find that a good resource. I can read my HSB Friends and find them there.

I won't shop at my SchtuffClearance blog, but you could!! Or you could go to our Ebay store, but sadly I don't have much time to list much there anymore.

Site that offers frugal tips to save money:

Sprittibee has very good tips on so many things! There are also homestead bloggers that live frugally and have a lot of info on living frugally. Also, check out Marilyn Moll, The Urban Homemaker

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting A site that provides good wholesome recipes:

I don't usually look for recipes, and when I find one that we want to try, I usually modify it if it isn't a healthy one. I have always taken whatever we have or what we like and made up my own recipes. Amy of SimpleFolk is a lovely site with all sorts of homey recipes and ideas. I have also gone to Organic Authority.

An informational site that shows you "how" to:

haha..... the main "how to" site that I visit is the Yahoo Goat-Ring! I have also been visiting several "how to" build a chicken tractor sites! I love Organic Gardening also. There is a page you can visit that tells you what to do each month to prepare your garden area for your specific region, so I can use it year 'round.

A homeschool family website that you purchase from to support them:

The Old Schoolhouse Store, Heart of Wisdom, Bundled In Prayer, No Greater Joy

A charity website that you support:

Jim Erskine of Chirotoons LTD has done several charity fundraisers for homeschool families in need that I participate in supporting.

Favorite Graphic site to get graphics for your blog or other things:

I don't have one. I usually just make own... If I want to just grab one from the internet, I have found that GoogleImages offers a good selection.  If I want a specialty one made, I would ask Amanda or Jocelyn, then Paulie, Eric or Cam, because they are pretty good! Actually, I made the one on my top right sidebar with my blog name. The picture is of our road a little ways down.

 Site that offers Homeschool Freebies:

HomeschoolEStore, FreeStuffForHomeschoolers, NotebookingPages.com. I also get TOS Freebie Fridays newsletter, and Julie Nott gives great free sites and TOS's weekly freebie.

Other than that, I usually check Denise at Heart 'N Soul for freebies. She's so good at that!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Site that offers any kind of Freebies:

Freecycle Network

And... have you ever heard of FreeCycle? You can join the one closest to you and get updates of things people in your own community have to give away, you can give stuff away yourself, and you can also request items you are looking for.

A blog to read that is always full of humor:

Tia always cracks me up. Her personal blog is Hi-Desert Hi-Jinx, but you will find her blogging on The Front Porch and at Home Where They Belong quite a bit too! A blog that always makes me smile - not necessarily humourous, but makes me smile all the same is my daughter's blogs, Rachel's Reasoning and The Milk and Honey Tea-House. She is 13vand so sweetly honest. I love it and always get a good laugh and sometimes a few tears!

A blog to read that is always full of useful information:

Dana of Principled Discovery blogs brain food for the homeschool mom. Sprittibee does too. I love these ladies! For a spiritual blessing and encouragement, The Ladies at HWTB are a favorite of mine. Deborah, Deb, Kim, Dena and Julie share encouragement and life's lessons from their own homeschool experiences, Scripture included!

A blog to visit because it is eye appealing and easy to read:

I am not a visual person, so, give me the great blog, and unless it is hard to read or grotesque.... you will find my favorites on my sidebar - though I do have several to add to it!!!! Some of my favorite beautiful blogs are: The Perils of Parenting and Other Ponderings , Amber at TTIL, Amy of Simple Folk Homeschool, Tamara's Training Hearts, BlessedMommy

A blog that you read because it inspires you to be a better homeschooling mom:

Oh, c'mon... I can't name just one. I won't remember them all anyway! I mean, most of the blogs I read inspire me to be a better homeschool mom! The homeschool mom blogs that encourage and inspire me that I visit regularly are my dear friends:

 The Ladies at HWTB
The Perils of Parenting and Other Ponderings
 Denise at Heart 'N Soul
Jill of Through the Window Pane (hopefully she will have more time to blog her wisdom now that The Girlhood is published for this quarter)

Dana of Principled Discovery
 Heather~Sprittibee
 April of ElCloud
 MamaArcher

Amber-Trust in the LORD

 Robin of Heart of Wisdom
Camilla Anderson of Growing in Truth

Tamara of Training Hearts

Amy of SimpleFolk and Simple Folk Homeschool

A site that you would allow your children to visit:

It depends on the age of my child, of course! We let all of our children visit most blogs on www.homeschoolblogger.com, though one of the girls or I check them first. The Littles are only allowed to visit friends and don't get on too much anyway. The older girls can visit HSB, HSB2, any of the sites I listed and any of those listed on their blogs.

List any other sites that you would like to share that have provided you with a wealth of golden information:

 Remembrance Press

 Above Rubies

  BabyMakers

  Virtuous Maidens

  Whyhomeschool

  Higher Up and Further In

  Homeschoolbuzz

  Dr. Mercola

** I am going to add another resource on here: My favorite Homeschool Magazines:

"I am often asked what ages are appropriate for The Girlhood Home Companion. We like to think that you will read the companion to younger daughters, ages 10-11, and discuss it with older daughters, ages 12-18. Of course, there is no reason why you cannot gather with all of your daughters, young and old (and grandmothers, too), to read and discuss the articles found within these pages. In fact, we think that reading The Girlhood weekly at afternoon tea would make a lovely tradition. In that case, dear mother, you will have to hide The Girlhood from your daughters the minute it arrives in the mail." -Jill Novak  Read the rest HERE.

The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine is for homeschooling families everywhere. Our magazine is like a convention in a journal! It doesn't stereotype homeschooling families or even homeschooling itself. Whether you have one child or ten, whether you are just at the beginning of your journey or are nearing the finish line, you'll find something in our magazine that encourages you!

Back Issue #65, Above Rubies Magazine

Above Rubies is a Donation based Magazine published several times per year designed to uplift, encourage, strengthen, and motivate men and women around the world to fulfill their God-given mandates concerning children, family, and dominion upon the earth for Jesus Christ.

Home School Enrichment Magazine, September 2007 Issue

Home School Enrichment Magazine is firmly dedicated to encouraging and inspiring homeschool parents! Each and every issue includes articles to help you hold onto your vision for home education and the lifestyle you have chosen!  Homeschooling is about more than academics. It's a whole way of life, in which a learning-rich environment is a top priority. Home School Enrichment Magazine helps your family become lifelong learners by providing enrichment ideas and fun activities for you to try!

As goes the child so goes the future adult—and the future parent. At every moment, parents holding little children are holding the future. Parenting, the most important and demanding job in the world comes on us by default. Ready or not, prepared or ill equipped, all parents produce fruit that lasts throughout eternity. It is like stopping everyone that walks down the street and seating them at a piano to play for five minutes. The melody or the dissonance goes on and on from one generation to the next unless someone takes the time to break the cycle and learn the skill…of parenting.

Homeschooling TodayPacked with encouragement and practical helps for homeschool parents who work hard day in and day out to train up their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, Homeschooling Today magazine delivers the resources homeschoolers around the world have come to rely upon, from regular departments to book and product reviews, and from popular unit studies to academic helps.

blessings! -Jacque
