Update on Paul and Gena and Baby Suarez

5:52 PM, Thursday, October 11, 2007 .. Posted in Seeking Rest in Heart and Home .. 8 comments .. Link
I posted a prayer request for Paul and Gena and Susanna, as well as some others, so I asked Gena if she would mind me posting her update. Here it is, directly from Gena:
Whoa. Paul and I are beside ourselves - with joy. Had an appt today (four hours!!) at the doctor's office - actually 2 appts. One was an ultrasound where it was verified that Susanna is healthy, chunky (3.5 pounds), happy (would not stop wiggling her TOES for us) and perfect looking. Oh my she has a TON of hair - it showed up on the sonogram!!

This ultrasound (which was thoroughly looked at by a perinatologist - HIGH risk doctor) ruled out any kind of Rh Disease in an advanced state. So far so good. Secondly, the high risk doctor then came in (THANK YOU SPUNKY) and talked with us for a long time. We love this guy already! Such a nice man! He agreed that if we'd wait thirty min or so, he'd squeeze us in today to go over all my labs, the possibility of pre-eclampsia, and any other concerns I have (thank you LORD for using SPUNKY to get my brain thinking to do this ASAP rather than blow off the danger of Rh).

Anyway, so we waited and then were seen. Turns out that nurse the other day - and only God knows why - told a bit of an....incorrect statement to me. She wanted me to get the Rhogam shot that day and I really wanted to wait until Susanna was born for that (which would have been fine). She then told me at that point that the labs had come back and showed antibodies. I was stunned because the ER had said, no, I was fine - no antibodies (Rh Disease comes from that). I questioned her for clarification...I was shocked I had antibodies! She insisted I did and needed Rhogam. NOT TRUE. I went home (after getting that painful shot - YOW!!) and worried for days that Susanna was possibly going to get transfusions before and/or after her birth....and possibly even DIE........while it was all untrue.

High risk doctor (two docs actually) looked at my lab results today from that draw and said..ummmm, no. You do not have any antibodies whatsoever and furthermore, this would be SO much easily handled if your husband would just go and get a blood test to see if he is negative. If so, you don't EVER need Rhogam cuz there's no way any of your kids will EVER be born with Rh Disease! Then Paul told him how in high school they did his blood and said he was a universal giver - O blood. The doctor thru his head back and laughed and said, if that is true, you are NEGATIVE just like your wife which means the baby is too - no CHANCE for this disease ....no CHANCE of antibodies forming whatsoever....and no need for Rhogam or anything like that. Still, because that was years and years ago and Paul may be mistaken on that blood type, they gave him a prescription for a blood test tomorrow to see truly what his type is. Sigh. What a crazy game up til now that could have been solved! And a lot of stress avoided - like my blood pressure needs it. But we are praising the LORD that she is fine and that I have ZERO antibodies (despite what Nurse Rhogam told me!!!!) forming in me against Sus.

So we are thrilled! Also in the office, my blood pressure was quite low compared to what it had been. Still high - but lower than it's been. I'll know tomorrow about the protein and at that point, if I have too much protein in urine, I get admitted into the hospital tomorrow - til she's born. I think though based on a couple other tests that's not going to happen at all. They also labeled me as "high risk" which thrilled me. This is what I wanted. It means much higher care with doctors - not nurses so much. YAY!!!! They said stay on bed rest til tomorrow when we know about the protein but if it's not there, then I get to come OFF bedrest (YEAH!!) I don't know...I just feel so incredibly blessed. God has completely answered our prayers. Sus is doing GREAT....I feel wonderful today....and Paul and I are just on cloud nine right now. THANK YOU FOR PRAYING! It works!!

Love,
-gena

Wow, Gena- so, your bp was actually a bit lower, and you are now going to be seeing a Specialist! All because a nurse wanted to sell some Rhogam! God is truly in everything in our lives! Yahoo!!!
...and you finally found out for real that the RH issue may not be a problem for you at all! Thank you LORD!
blessings! -Jacque

Thank God for this positive update! I am also RH Negative so I completely understand her situation--how WONDERFUL if her husband is also negative! Mine is postive, in character and spirit, but yes, also quite positive in his blood type also... ~smile~ God bless! Susie
