Walking Therein

Blessed Assurance - Saturday Psalm & Praise

2:43 AM, Saturday, October 13, 2007 .. Posted in Saturday Psalm and Praise Meme .. 9 comments .. Link

Have you ever been 'down in the mulligrubs'? Life is not fair; you aren't being treated right; you shouldn't have to live like this. Or maybe there is something genuinely breaking you that you have to find a way to live with and through. Maybe a fear that grips your future that you must find a way to give to Him.

Way down in the mulligrubs, in the pit. Not able to see the hope God has for you. I would imagine we have all been there or will be someday. In a place where we need God more than ever; where we need to get our sights set on Him, instead of whatever our lives hold at the moment. At the moment we do have Blessed Assurance that we do not focus on. We must ask the LORD to help us do just that. There is great freedom in the LORD when we praise Him. When we put aside ourselves and worship the Creator, Our Father, the One True God. When lift our eyes up, and whether we see Him or not, we lift Him up and praise Him. Therein lies our help.

Blessed Assurance

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!

O what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long;

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,

Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;

Angels descending bring from above,

Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,

I in my Savior am happy and blest;

Watching and waiting, looking above,

Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

"Blessed Assurance" was composed by two of the most prolific Christian hymn writers in history. The lyrics come from a woman with over 8000 hymns to her credit and the music comes from the organ of a lady with over 500 hymns to her credit. One day, Fanny Crosby was visiting her dear friend, Phoebe Knapp. She played a tune for Fanny and asked her afterwards, "What does it say to you, Fanny?" Her reply was simple: "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine." This hymn is still being played on the church organ in thousands of churches still today.

Despite being blind, Fanny Crosby’s impact on Christian hymns was tremendous. She once described how her blindness affected her songs. "I verily believe that God intended that I should live my days in physical darkness so that I might be better prepared to sing His praise and lead others from spiritual darkness into eternal light. With sight I would have been too distracted to have written thousands of hymns." Without Fanny’s faith and Phoebe’s organ, songs such as "Blessed Assurance" would have never been written.

Phoebe Knapp was also known as Mrs. Joseph F. Knapp, the second president of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. They belonged to the same church congregation as Fanny Crosby, the John Street Methodist Church in New York City. She kept a pipe organ in her apartment to help her compose. When her husband passed away, Mrs. Knapp was left with a large fortune. She gave a large portion of her inheritance to charity.

blessings! -Jacque

What a wonderful encouragement this post is! I love this hymn--We do have a blessed assurance!

And thank you for your comment on my blog. We have put some guidelines in place for D....he must ask before going to certain sites (the same idea as you were talking about...approving sites previously) and he must show us his posts and comments before he publishes them. And teaching "blogging etiquette"...teaching him that people can't read your expression in writing sometimes (they may not know you are joking when you make a sarcastic comment) He has visited Paulie's blog, but I don't think he's been to your daughters' blogs. I'll encourage him to do so....
Thanks again for your input and I'll definitely call on you if I have any more questions!
Have a blessed day!
Christy :)

RYC1:
Aww... gee Thanks Mom. Your comment was really something special.
Yeah, glad we can learn thro living school, but I still prefer to do textbooks. I gues I just feel that when I work in a tb I can see that I am accomplishing what I need to and see it get finished. You can't really see that in living learning.
Hope you like your new book and can use it. ; )

RYC2:
Yeah I knew those were your favorite pics. That is why I decided to use them. ; )
Thank you so much for letting us go to TN. That was so awesome. I wish you all could have gone too.
Well as much as I would want to go with you all back to TN, I think its a good idea. Maybe you could go...
Love,
Amanda only

RYC: To watch or not to watch, that is question! To die, to sleep; To sleep perchance to dream. Ay, there’s the rub, for in that sleep of death what dreams my come when we have shuffled off this mortal coils of bongo junk!

Pernicious material thy name is the Bongo video! Rid us of thy evil, get thee to a nunnery Bongo!

Can you tell I’ve been watching Hamlet? ;)

Oh, and via chat with Paul…

Eric Novak: I’ll let it die, in a few days
Paul Suarez: ahhaha
Paul Suarez: lol
Paul Suarez: wow
Paul Suarez: thanks ;)
Eric Novak: yeah, no problem, I’m getting tired of trying to beat sense into your head :D

I just saw your Monday Memo post at homeschool blogger awards and wanted to come by and say HI. This is one of my favorite songs. We love music in our home and the old hymns are some that we like to listen to and sing all the time.

God bless,
Sallie
