Saturday Psalm & Praise: Beautiful One

Saturday Psalm & Praise

I am learning as my children grow, to cherish the moments more. I have always done this to an extent, but sometimes life really does get in the way, so to speak, and you miss so much. So, with Amanda's approaching 18th birthday in mind, I had been pondering quite a few things. One of those things being to value and really make the most of the time I spend with her, because her time is most likely the time I have the least of left. Fortunately, we do get to spend a lot of time together.

I am not a big christian music fan. Having been a Worship Leader, I tend to get frustrated and angry at all of the songs on the radio that are totally self-focused, rather than God-focused. Because of this and the usual verbiage of most of the dj's, we rarely turn on the radio. That is pretty much fine with all of our children, and we do enjoy worship cds, anyway.

When Amanda and I went into town the other night, LucyLillie and Caleb were along, and pretty ready for bed. Lucy was not too happy in her carseat, so we turned the radio on to see if there was a song to sing to her. Amanda and I share one characteristic when we hear music - we listen - really listen - to the words to songs. This particular song struck me this time. That was strange because I already knew it well, but had not contemplated it for some time. As I heard words of praise to the LORD I felt an overwhelming sense of refreshing and relief . It was a lovely change from the other songs we heard in the same run. It was truly about a Wonderful, Beautiful God.

BEAUTIFUL ONE

by Tim Hughes

Wonderful, So Wonderful
Is your unfailing love
Your cross has spoken mercy over me
No eye has seen no ear has heard
No heart can fully know
How glorious, how beautiful you are

Beautiful One I love
Beautiful One I adore
Beautiful One my soul must sing

Powerful so powerful
Your glory fills the skies
Your mighty works displayed for all to see
The beauty of your majesty awakes my heart to sing
How marvelous how wonderful you are

You opened my eyes to your wonders anew
You captured my heart with this love
Because nothing on earth is as beautiful as you

I was refreshed because this song speaks to God's character: His mercy, His unfailing love. All of these characteristics that I am so sorely lacking in. All of these powerful, lovely virtues I am reaching for and so often miserably failing in.  And the crazy thing is that I was not ashamed of not being like He is as much as I was in awe of WHO He is. As I heard the words, "Beautiful One I love, Beautiful One I adore, Beautiful One my soul must sing," they just captured me. They captured my heart for God.

We, as a culture have lost the meaning of Beautiful. I mean, to me, even the word beautiful is a beautiful word. It emanates serenity and life and a joyous feeling, yet we do not truly use it in this manner. To say that God is beautiful was such a lifting to my heart, I had to stop and close my eyes and sing along.

The song goes on to praise His Power and His glory that fills the skies. These beautiful skies that are calm and peaceful blue at times and a dark, swirling black at others truly are filled with His glory. And His power. They, and all of creation, are His mighty works displayed for all to see. It is amazing that, despite all of this majesty in creation around us, this part of the verse is still true: "No eye has seen no ear has heard, No heart can fully know, How glorious, how beautiful you are."

Thank you LORD for showing yourself to a people who really are incapable of fully understanding who you are, but are so desperate to know. Thank you. You truly are Beautiful.

Blessings~
Jacque

If you would like to join me in my Saturday Psalm & Praise, it's simple!
1. Write a post on your blog about a favorite Psalm, Hymn or Worship Chorus or one that has spoken to you in the past week.  The only qualification is that whatever you choose has to be in praise of God. In other words, I would like to see Psalms and songs that are not all about me, the worshiper. I have heard too many songs in recent years sung about me, my problems, my worship, etc. I want this to be directed to God and His Son, Jesus. That is who we are to worship, and I think we need to make sure our hearts are set in that direction, not just all about how I want to do this or how I am this because of that.

Truly, we all have to work it out for ourselves, and you need to make it yours. Just bring it to God for His glory. I want this to be an offering to Him.

2. You may just blog the Psalm/song or you can tell what impact is has had on you and your thoughts. Sometimes just the Psalm is enough. Sometimes we have to let out our own words of praise!

3. Link your post to this week's original SP&P.

4. Oh, and make sure you sign your name to Mr. Linky and link your actual post. Leave a comment if you like.

5. If you would like to use a Mr. Linky on your post, please feel free to do so! I have made it an open meme.

I love this song! And I love what you have written here. It is refreshing to hear something that talks about how beautiful God is...I get weary of the self focused songs as well.
May you be blessed today...you have been an encouragement to me!

I loved your song choice too!!! Wonderful song and I loved everything you said about it too! I know you are so right on about how we yearn to know MORE, but will never be able to fully comprehend how awesome our God truly is! It is an honor to even say His name =o)

God bless!
Susie

Love it

I absolutely love "Beautiful One" as well, we thoroughly enjoy singing it during praise and worship with our church family. You are so right about worship often tending toward self rather than our Heavenly Father. Love your Saturdays!! Wish I could stay organized enough and understand all of these links and such enough to get and stay regularly involved. Hoping you are enjoying a fantastic school year.

Wonderful
