I am straying a bit from the meme theme of Psalms.
I searched for 2 words in Psalms, and needed to look further.
So, you will have to read with me from Proverbs.

I was looking for a sweet spirit in a couple of words, and this is what came up. I had already started a post about Joy (silly me, I could have used that for Robin's Fruit of the Spirit Friday - maybe next week!). Anyway, I have spoken to so many friends in the past month or so and found a pattern of discouragement.

Then, I was speaking to one friend today, and she was relaying to me a hurt caused by a friend over some piddly article of clothing. A long-time friend. A friend who is hurting. And, it reminded me of the post about Joy I had started. About how Joy is so easily stolen if left unprotected. About how easily it affects relationships. And how Joy is something the enemy does not want us to have.
It is sad to lose a friend you have had for a very long time over something so small, but sometimes God uses these things to put hedges around us, as we are learning in our discussion of The Hedge of Thorns.

My friend asked me what to do. Her heart is broken. It immediately reminded me of Joy. I don't know what to do other than ask the Lord to pray that bitterness won't come in and that love will reign. Even if love means to step back from that friendship and allow God to work in that area of her friend's life. I learned a few years back that some friends are only friends for a season. That was hard for me to grasp after having certain friends for years, but it is true. And then again, there's that hedge thing.

That God thing. So, two things to praise God for this week:

Friend/s:

Proverbs 27:10
Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Proverbs 17:17
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Kindness:

Proverbs 31:26
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Psalm 119:76
Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.

Psalm 117:2
For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

God has given us His Word to keep in our hearts. He has given it so that we may live by it and not only live here on this earth at this time, but live for all eternity. He gives us friends out of his kindnesses. I did find it interesting, after choosing those verses to see that in two of them, there is a distinction between friends and brothers.
Thank you, God, for your Word. Truly your merciful kindness is great toward us. Please comfort my friend in this. And, I pray your Word will comfort those who feel lonely, friendless and who have lost their Joy.

merciful kindness

I appreciate your post and I just had to point out because it delighted me to notice -

I just finished putting up a Psalm that has blessed me with the theme of the Lord's 'steadfast love' as the ESV puts it, 'mercy' in the KJV and in those two verses from the Psalms regarding kindess, 'merciful kindness' is the same Hebrew word as the others!

Thank you again for your post, it has given me much to meditate upon.

I'm starting to really want to read The Hedge of Thorns - I keep hearing it mentioned all over the place!
