BFS #12 - Goals: Personal, Family, Homeschool
Before I get to this assignment, I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for the prayers and sweet words you left me on the last Blogger Friend School #11 Praying For Needs. I left a few comments and said many prayers as I visited some blogs, but did not always get to leave a comment. You are all so very sweet, and I wish you the very best as you begin a new year!

"This week our assignment will hopefully get our minds set for the upcoming NEW Calendar Year! I know that I always try to set goals. Some are easily accomplished and many are pushed aside and may get added to the next year."
This will be our last assignment until the New Year!!!
Enjoy your family time!
For me, it doesn't do much good to set goals, unless I have a plan to follow through on them. I am a great list-maker, but getting the goals accomplished requires a plan.
Personal Goals for 2008:
Strengthen my relationship with the LORD.
Get up before everyone and read the Word. This will mean I go to bed a LOT earlier.
Spend EVERY morning reading the Word with our children.
Since I believe this is the best way to train our children, I already have a desire to do this. I just need to do it.
Isn't that how goals are? "I just need to do it"?
Spend more time with my Beloved.
This is rather difficult since he gets home at 8pm and doesn't get up earlier than he needs to (believe me, I understand; he works 13h a day!). We do talk on the phone daily about different things, and it has actually become something I look forward to.
Make the time I spend with our children always count!
I have recently noticed that I go in phases with our children. Sometimes so-n-so gets more attention and another gets less time. I don't think that is a bad thing, but I have been trying to make every word and every look or answer count. I am trying to smile at them more and trying more to "get them to smile".
Go to bed earlier.
This is a no-brainer. Apparently, I have no brain here. I think I will set an alarm clock or something, because, honestly, I can lose track of time so easily, especially when everyone is going in a different direction. We need to all get going in the same direction here.
Get my house-cleaning back on a schedule
I was not raised on a schedule. It is so much easier to get house-cleaning accomplished on a schedule. School too. Though we do not -and cannot- schedule all of our school, we do have dailies we do.
Lose some baby weight! :)
I got the idea the other day to go up and down the steps. That is quick and simple; something I have time for. I used to walk. Here, there is nowhere to walk. I also find it hard to find time to walk for an hour.
Be on the computer less
We have already ordered dsl, and we are in the process of getting our network set-up. This will eliminate a lot of wasted time.It will also allow three computers online, instead of each of us waiting for the other three! Now, I just have to organize my online responsibilities!
Family Goals for 2008:
Study what the Word says about our speech and respect.
Sarcasm has crept in to some areas of our lives and needs to be weeded out. This is why I hate sarcasm. It starts as a joke, but at the same time, it is making fun of the other person and causes a bitterness that is masked as humor. I don't believe God takes it very lightly. Especially when, before long, there is bickering and "blowing others off" because they are mean back or get their feelings hurt. Respect takes a deep dive at this point. Sarcasm definitely leads to a smart mouth.
Visit our Grandparents more often.
Matt and I are planning to go every other week.
Work at getting our house finished.
This is easier said than done. Matt works two jobs and has little time anymore to work on it. The kids and I helped a LOT when we knew what to do, but I can't do what needs done next.
Get boxes of "stuff" organized (read: pitch it or put it where we can use it!)
This is going to have to be scheduled into the house-cleaning time. We have boxes of stuff to sell on ebay. We were doing that regularly about two years ago. I offered to the girls that I will give them half of the profit if they list them. I just need it gone!
Work on our Garden Plan
Set a time for all of us to go through seed catalogs and brainstorm about what went right and what went wrong last year.
Get caught up on our sewing
Rachel's quilt, more cloth diapers, a wall map, 2 baby books, and the boys quilts that are already cut. Amanda also bought material for LucyLillie to make a raspberry quilt. We got a sewing machine 3 years ago, and Matt even got my "old" one cleaned and ready. We have had so much fun staying in working on sewing projects together in the winter.
Homeschool Goals for 2008:
Get everything for each child updated.
I already started this, and I already have sat down with Amanda and gone through the graduation requirements we have. I will be using Robin Sampson's What Every Child Needs To Know... and completing checklists for each child and dating them.
Start planning what I will need next year
Copy and make a list of books to read. Make out my "wish List".
Look into other states' (that we may be moving to) homeschool laws to see if I need to have anything special. I don't think I do.
Make a list of supplies we greatly need!
Like the pencil sharpener that is broken, and we need a new globe. I need to make some plans and a list of supplies so we can make some bookshelves. Who ever has enough bookshelves??? Also, we need to have a savings just for these items.
This was a great assignment for me. I know this is not all I need to plan as goals, but it is a great start. Thank you Tamara, for doing this!!
blessings! -Jacque

Wasn't this a great assignment! I just don't know how you manage to fit in all the things you do already!! I think I could have added a few of your goals to my list also - especially the going to bed earlier (might mean I get up earleir too!!).
Praying that all your goals are met! In the mean time, I wish you a Happy and Holy Christmas, Nadolig Llawen - (Welsh greetings!!),

You have some great goals listed there! And I know with 8 kids (and a baby at that!) it is hard to work toward any goals. (At least that's the excuse I use) I use Robin's book too.
Happy New Years,
Adena
