Thursday, January 10, 2008 - Winter Reading Challenge: My Books 2008
My Book List to read for 2008
Trish's Winter Reading Challenge is from Jan. 7th - March 17th, 2008. I am making a list of books I want to read this year. I will be adding to it as I go, and I will try to complete as many as I can in the WRC time.
Please go to her original post to get all the details!
Here is the start of my list!
For the HSB Literary Club:
F-The Inheritance by Christoph von Schmid
This is the second HSB book club book I am reading through. We just checked, and ours are just shipped out, so we should get them next week. I can't wait to read it and discuss it, because I loved reading the Hedge of Thorns.
To read to my children:
NF-Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends By the Malleys
I assigned this to Eric and Rachel last month. Then they couldn't find it. I found it a couple of days ago, fallen behind some books. They were both interested in it, after looking through it. I thought it would be a good memory if we could all read through it together.
NF-The Hedge of Thorns by John Hatchard
I finished this personally, but need to finish it with our children. I think I will start it from the beginning and read it in a weekend with them.
For me:
NF-Created To Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl
I have started reading this a couple of times. The first time, I got to chapter four, and I tossed it across the room. I obviously want to read this book, so I am going to finish it. I am curently on chapter 11, after re-starting it last month.
NF-Preparing Sons to Provide for a Single-Income Family by Stephen Maxwell
This is a book I was not sure I should read -or leave it to Matt. I started reading it again yesterday, and I am going to finish it, and also read parts of it to my son and my older daughters.
NF-What Your Child Needs To Know When by Robin Sampson
Working through this one too. I *need* to finish this one soon. It has a lot of information in it. By a favorite author, too. :)
NF-Teaching the Trivium by Harvey and Laurie Bluedorn
I have read through most of this before. Though we do not teach the Trivium, much of this book reads like a devotional and is a wonderful encouragement. It also defines the stages of children's understanding. I think that is important for every parent to know.
NF-The Charlotte Mason series
When I learned of this, I *had* to have it. I got for a really good deal on ebay. That was about five years ago, I think. I have only read parts of a couple of the books. I have been looking at it sitting on that bookshelf up there, and it has been calling my name. Lindafay has blogged so many times waht Miss Mason has to say. I want to finish it this year.
NF-Hints on Child-Training
Another boo I read to about 3 chapters. This is an excellent book. I want to take the time to read it and absorb it.
F-The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
I have heard of this for years. It's time I read it.
For review:
F-Sentinel: City of Destiny (read aloud to children) by Landel Bilbry
I am going to have fun reading this with Eric. We all love fiction of this style, so I think we will all enjoy it.
NF-How Strong Women Pray by Bonnie St. John
I have already started this book. I am not sure how I feel about it yet. It is a book I am reviewing, so I will need to wrap it up here pretty soon.
blessings!

You've created quite a list! I wish I had more time to read for myself. I have a myriad of books I want to read, but never can find the time to read them. I have started to listen to audio books as I go to and from work, and when I'm doing housework.
I noticed that you want to read Screwtape Letters. We have that on audio read by John Cleese. He does such a wonderful job reading it. If you ever get a chance, you should listen to it. |

I haven't been reading much lately, I'm just now getting around to reading my friend's blogs again! I am reading an e-book but it's going to take me awhile to get through it. Enjoyed your post over at Home Where They Belong (and below).

I've enjoyed browsing your list.
We read this one last year and enjoyed it:
Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends
It was our Devotional for the second half of last school year. Right now we are reading DC Talk's Jesus Freaks Vol 2. I highly recommend it. It is like Foxes Book of Martyrs. Very graphic, but very thought provoking! |

That is quite a list! I SO need to read "Created to Be His Helpmeet". I know I am failing miserably in God's plan as how I should act as a wife. *sigh*

Sherry

Great list! I haven't heard of Preparing Sons to Provide for a Single-Income Family but it's one that I want to! That is certainly a lost art in the day and age.

You are very ambitious! There are a few titles on your list that I would like to read - so many books, so little time!
