Walking Therein

Saturday, February 16, 2008 - Saturday Psalm & Praise: Tis So Sweet

Honey. Oreo cookies. M&Ms. Dr, Pepper. Ice Cream. Chocolate chip cookies.
Sweet. Sweet. Sweet. We have a little idea of sweetness.
Snuggling a baby. Snuggling our 18 year old. Watching a smile come over the face of a child. Holding our Beloved's hand.
Sweet. Sweet. Sweet. And yet, we still don't have the meaning of sweetness.
This song gives a glimpse of the meaning of sweetness. A sweetness that is not man-made or even of warm, happy feelings of love.
It is of a peace everlasting and a knowing. It is faith, but something real that we cannot necessarily explain. More than a warm fuzzy feeling, but very real is its assurance.

It is so sweet to trust in Jesus. That is indescribable to someone who has not experienced it. But we have all experienced pain and loss. Sometimes things cannot be explained except in its opposite. Such as the opposite of the peace God gives us. The turmoil we live in and the fear of live itself until we have God's peace, the sweetness that comes in trusting in Jesus.
I cannot explain how people live life with heartaches. I cannot explain how friends and loved ones face trials that I could not fathom going through. I don't know how I have made it sometimes. Except for the Lord.
I think God made man and woman strong creatures. We are made in His image, and we are strong and resilient and determined, and I think we can make it through very trying things. But I am talking about the gut-wrenching things that would drive us away from God, and into a pit of despair. Except for the Lord.
Luke 15:10
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

And, yet, we serve a mighty God in the simplicity of this sweetness. In the simple repentant heart of one sinner, and asking the Lord, Jesus, to be the Lord of that life, such a ruckus in caused in the heavenlies. To trust in Jesus. To take all the burden of sin and drop it and just trust in Jesus.

Tis so Sweet To Trust in Jesus

Saturday Psalm & Praise
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take him at his word;
just to rest upon his promise,
and to know, "Thus saith the Lord."

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
just to trust his cleansing blood;
and in simple faith to plunge me
neath the healing, cleansing flood!
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!
Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
just from sin and self to cease;
just from Jesus simply taking
life and rest, and joy and peace.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!
I'm so glad I learned to trust thee,
precious Jesus, Savior, friend;
and I know that thou art with me,
wilt be with me to the end.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!
I have known the Lord as my Saviour for 19 years. I still am thankful I can drop things, stuff, junk, burdens, at His feet and trust in Him.
I have not proven Him over and over, but He has proven Himself. When I am faithless or unfaithful to Him and His Word, He is faithful and He proves Himself over and over. He will never leave me nor forsake me. He is sweetness. Trusting in Him is sweetness.

I have not even come close to the last verse. I have not yet learned to trust Him. I am learning.
It is a silly thing being human; to know what to do, but not quite be able to do it. Oh, I get around to it every time, but my gut reaction is to trust in my own knowledge. Very dangerous business.
I know the sweetness of denying my own knowledge to allow God to work in a situation, and by God's grace, I will learn to trust Him.

Listen to Tis So Sweet

Thanks for sharing this Jacque. This hymn has sustained me through many hard times - even long before I began teaching my family hymns. I remembered it from my childhood, before there were contemporary worship choruses. :-)

I have my post up and added to Mr. LInky.

This is a great hymn. Please forgive me for not posting one today. For some reason I felt that I needed to do something different today. I will be working on one for next week!
