Saturday, March 15, 2008 - On the Upswing - Spring is in the Air!
I think we are all over this six week flu bout. Finally! I just realized we went from crisis to crisis since last November. It started with Grandma and the nursing home abuse, and then she went to be with the Lord in January. At the time Matt was in NM at her funeral, our dumb sweet dog lacerated her paw and needed CONSTANT care... which lasted over 4 weeks. This was when sickness crept up on us a bit with Eric the first week of Feb., and then came out full-blown when Matt came home with influenza on Feb. 20th. Everyone but Amanda got it, and Caleb worst of all. I mean WORST. And that wore on all of us.
Anyway, I took Caleb to the Doc, and he is still in recovery-mode, but needs to be seen in four to six weeks to check his breathing and his lungs. He kinda' "pauses" when he breathes sometimes. It was scary when he had a 106' fever and did it. and then, the past week, week #2 of influenza, he started saying his chest hurt, and, well, that was a concern. I am so thankful the doc cleared him, tough it was with reservation.
That said, Caleb is probably still going to be a bit under the weather for a few more weeks, but is well other than that. He acts fine, but I guess Influenza effects can last up to six weeks. His chest sounded ok to the Doc, so that was good to me. These photos were taken last week, before he was feeling much better. He fell asleep that way. Poor little guy! The next photo is the day of his Doc appt., and you can tell he is much better! We were happy to meet with the Suarez's for a couple of hours.
I feel like I have been a bit out of commission online, only doing what I can, though I have blogged what I could. Now we are back to one computer online, because I am finally getting my cracked laptop screen fixed! Of course, that is just in time for the four of us to get our ten articles in for the next issue of GGM, so go figure!!
There are things we are also preparing for around here. Ever since reading Mrse's post about Stuff, we have been de-stuffing! The town-wide garage sale is coming up at the end of April, and we are going to be ready this year! I am giving away so-o-ooooo much, and we have things to go through. We have also decided to sell our two bucks. They are a year old and, believe me, ready to be big bucks! We also have a she-goat, a yearling, to sell, and I wish we had bred her, because I know of two blog-friends who want a milk goat, but, alas, she needs to be bred first.
I also am hoping to give away 20 of our hens (I think) - at least 10-15 to a friend locally. I have not spoken to her in awhile, and I need to dig out her email and ask if she wants them. (Bethany, if you still read, email me!) I also have a bunch of roosters, and while we wanted to butcher them, we didn't get to, and I am open to trading a couple for some butchering services, if anyone is interested!
I am finally going to finish up the reviews for TOS... WE will be able to get to the Sally Ride Science Classroom Set this week, hallelujah! We got sick right about the time I had gotten the teacher info to get on it, and then we couldn't! I also have oodles of homeschool-related books that I am contemplating listing here. I need to talk to Christina and see how her sale turned out.
Ha. Another fun thing we hope to do for the town garage sale is put out our life-size Spiderman we won (yes, we win weird things like that!!) from Blockbuster in the summer of 2003. If I can use our camera with our printer and 'photo-dock' it (I think I can - do you know, Heather?) or use the memory card, then we will be all set to take photos and sell those too.
So, all in all, these are just more of life's lessons we will have opportunity over the next couple of months to practice life and learning. Oh, and we got the tax check, so getting that budgeted and deciding what we want and what we need and what we can afford - I am hoping school supplies/books/etc. fit into that! - that will all be another math, decision-making, maturity load-full of lessons!
Did you see those cute pictures of Luc's photo shoot??

And, ALL four of us Dixon-bloggers are having our Blogoversaries next week, so be looking for a Party!! And gifts too! Wanna join us!!??
blessings!

The scoop on our homeschool: Bible-first, Living Learning Moments, meaning if it happens, it's a lesson. We learn life! How long have we been homeschooling? Well, our oldest is 18. How much longer do we have to go? Well, our youngest is almost 1. We love it and wouldn't have it any other way.
