Saturday, April 5, 2008 - A GOOD Name Is To Be Chosen...

Proverbs 22:1
A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

We are getting ready for Loolie's birthday on Monday. Wow!! Do you remember when she was born? I had so very many well wishes and blessings! It was phenomenal. It really blessed me. And then naming her. Yes, it took a month. Maybe 6 weeks. I don't remember. But, at least with a record like a blog, I can check!

04-14-07 Baby Girl Speaking of her name, LucyLillie; we named her LucyLillie because we wanted to name her after her Great Grandmother. This is the same Great Grandmother who had alzheimer's, who we never got to take Lucy down to meet. She went to be with the Lord in January. Matt did let her know her name last year on her birthday, and he said she was surprised and very happy to hear it.

I liked the name Lillie, too, when we were naming her. Lillie and Lucie. Those were the two I had picked out. We really wanted to use Lucy. Matt really wanted to use it especially, as her first name. I liked Lillie a lot more. Her birth was the day before Easter, so Lillie fit right in with that one.  We tried so many names. First names, middle names, middle names as first names, first names as middle names, forgetting the whole thing all together!

The vote here was pretty much in favor of Lucy. I am thinking Amanda and I were the only ones who loved Lillie. I don't know if Mom or my sister gave their opinions on those two names. Gena liked Lucy. I can't remember what Paul liked. I think the boys liked Lucy. On a side note: Amanda still calls her Lillie, usually LillieGirl.

Then Matt pretty much nixed Lillie in favor of Lucy, and, well, that was just not cool Honey, sorry. No, not really. Actually, he really grew to like both names and fell in love with our Little Girlie, so it didn't matter in the end which one to him. On a tearful day, as I sang to my girl, I realized it had to be Lucy. I had chosen a few other middle names, and he liked Avigail. Me too. Of course, it means Father's Delight, so of course it fit our Little Sweetie so very well!

When I came up with the idea that we would just call her both names, it seemed like too much of a tongue twister to put the two names together. But they had really grown on us. Our blog friends had been waiting anxiously for an official name, and I think Lucy and Lillie were growing on them too. We just had to decide which came first: Lucy or Lillie. We were still divided on that one. LillieLucy. LucyLillie. Lucy 04-17-07

After a month of deciding and searching and praying, we decided on the perfect name: LucyLillie Avigail. Yes, that seems like a mouthful. It sure rolls off the tongue so easy now. It does fit her perfectly.
Isaac will occasionally break out singing her a little song we all made up when we were deciding names and nicknames were given to our little girlie. It goes like this:

LucyLillie Avigail (you have to hold out the aaaiiiiilllll)
Raspberry
PixieMuffin
Pre-cious

It is quite soothing to her and even the rest of us when he sings it so sweetly in his little four year old voice. You have to give each and every syllable of LucyLillie Avigail a hard count to get the right rhythm. And the last line of the song is usually, "I love her."

We have all been quite proud of her long sweet name that she seems to have grown into. Then, when Matt went to NM for Grandma's funeral, he discovered something extraordinary. In looking through all of the family information on both sides of his family, he discovered that his maternal Great Grandmother had a special middle name of which we had no idea: Lillie. So, our sweet little Raspberry, whom we named after her saint of a Great-Grandmother, was also named after her Great-Great-Grandmother too. That, to me, was extraordinary. It just blessed me. Really.

LucyLillie 03-08 Grandma's passing was such a time of sorrow and turmoil, with all the extenuating circumstances, and this really blessed me. I could not believe it. Is that a blessing or what? Naming our children has always been an important part of their lives, and I was extremely happy that she had been named after two Grandmas.

And now it is Spring again. And Lucy will be one. She is such a sweet little character. I can hear the birds chirping away outside, and it makes me smile. She was born at just the right time. She is so full of life and laughter. I can testify to this: no matter how many children God gives you, you will never run out of love. You can't. They supply it for you!

blessings!
