BFS #12 - Goals: Personal, Family, Homeschool

1:08 PM, Wednesday, December 19, 2007 .. Posted in Training Hearts Blogger Friends School .. 9 comments .. Link

Before I get to this assignment, I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for the prayers and sweet words you left me on the last Blogger Friend School #11 Praying For Needs.  I left a few comments and said many prayers as I visited some blogs, but did not always get to leave a comment. You are all so very sweet, and I wish you the very best as you begin a new year!

"This week our assignment will hopefully get our minds set for the upcoming NEW Calendar Year! I know that I always try to set goals. Some are easily accomplished and many are pushed aside and may get added to the next year."

This will be our last assignment until the New Year!!!

Enjoy your family time!

For me, it doesn't do much good to set goals, unless I have a plan to follow through on them. I am a great list-maker, but getting the goals accomplished requires a plan.

Personal Goals for 2008:
Strengthen my relationship with the LORD.
Get up before everyone and read the Word. This will mean I go to bed a LOT earlier.
Spend EVERY morning reading the Word with our children.
Since I believe this is the best way to train our children, I already have a desire to do this. I just need to do it.

Isn't that how goals are? "I just need to do it"?
Spend more time with my Beloved.
This is rather difficult since he gets home at 8pm and doesn't get up earlier than he needs to (believe me, I understand; he works 13h a day!). We do talk on the phone daily about different things, and it has actually become something I look forward to.
Make the time I spend with our children always count!
I have recently noticed that I go in phases with our children. Sometimes so-n-so gets more attention and another gets less time. I don't think that is a bad thing, but I have been trying to make every word and every look or answer count. I am trying to smile at them more and trying more to "get them to smile".
Go to bed earlier.
This is a no-brainer. Apparently, I have no brain here. I think I will set an alarm clock or something, because, honestly, I can lose track of time so easily, especially when everyone is going in a different direction. We need to all get going in the same direction here.
Get my house-cleaning back on a schedule
I was not raised on a schedule. It is so much easier to get house-cleaning accomplished on a schedule. School too. Though we do not -and cannot- schedule all of our school, we do have dailies we do.
Lose some baby weight! :)
I got the idea the other day to go up and down the steps. That is quick and simple; something I have time for. I used to walk. Here, there is nowhere to walk. I also find it hard to find time to walk for an hour.
Be on the computer less
We have already ordered dsl, and we are in the process of getting our network set-up. This will eliminate a lot of wasted time.It will also allow three computers online, instead of each of us waiting for the other three! Now, I just have to organize my online responsibilities!

Family Goals for 2008:

Study what the Word says about our speech and respect.
Sarcasm has crept in to some areas of our lives and needs to be weeded out. This is why I hate sarcasm. It starts as a joke, but at the same time, it is making fun of the other person and causes a bitterness that is masked as humor. I don't believe God takes it very lightly. Especially when, before long, there is bickering and "blowing others off" because they are mean back or get their feelings hurt. Respect takes a deep dive at this point. Sarcasm definitely leads to a smart mouth.
Visit our Grandparents more often.
Matt and I are planning to go every other week.
Work at getting our house finished.
This is easier said than done. Matt works two jobs and has little time anymore to work on it. The kids and I helped a LOT when we knew what to do, but I can't do what needs done next.
Get boxes of "stuff" organized (read: pitch it or put it where we can use it!)
This is going to have to be scheduled into the house-cleaning time. We have boxes of stuff to sell on ebay. We were doing that regularly about two years ago. I offered to the girls that I will give them  half of the profit if they list them. I just need it gone!
Work on our Garden Plan
Set a time for all of us to go through seed catalogs and brainstorm about what went right and what went wrong last year.
Get caught up on our sewing
Rachel's quilt, more cloth diapers, a wall map, 2 baby books, and the boys quilts that are already cut. Amanda also bought material for LucyLillie to make a raspberry quilt. We got a sewing machine 3 years ago, and Matt even got my "old" one cleaned and ready. We have had so much fun staying in working on sewing projects together in the winter.

Homeschool Goals for 2008:
Get everything for each child updated.
I already started this, and I already have sat down with Amanda and gone through the graduation requirements we have. I will be using Robin Sampson's What Every Child Needs To Know... and completing checklists for each child and dating them.
Start planning what I will need next year
Copy and make a list of books to read. Make out my "wish List".
Look into other states' (that we may be moving to) homeschool laws to see if I need to have anything special. I don't think I do.
Make a list of supplies we greatly need!
Like the pencil sharpener that is broken, and we need a new globe. I need to make some plans and a list of supplies so we can make some bookshelves. Who ever has enough bookshelves??? Also, we need to have a savings just for these items.

This was a great assignment for me. I know this is not all I need to plan as goals, but it is a great start. Thank you Tamara, for doing this!!

Blogger Friend School #11 Praying For Needs

2:37 AM, Wednesday, December 5, 2007 .. Posted in Training Hearts Blogger Friends School .. 33 comments .. Link

"The assignment for this week is to visit classmates' blogs and tell them you are praying for them.

Also, post any prayer needs you may personally have.

The Power of prayer is what binds us together with HIM!"

Prayer requests. I feel like this entire week has been nothing but prayer requests. Many from friends, and some that are personal, but a bunch, nonetheless.  I already started a post about how many times I have heard in the past week from friends that they have no Joy. And not that they have no Joy, but that they are losing their Joy.

And that makes sense. The enemy wants to steal, to kill and to destroy. That is what he does. He steals. And, I have felt for the last week like the Believer's Joy is one of his greatest victories. Losing Joy for a Believer is what breaks up and tears apart so many lives. It may not be the final cause, but it is most likely one of the main reasons. When we look at our circumstances, it is so easy to lose faith.

What Tamara said, "The Power of prayer is what binds us together with HIM!" is so true. When we lift each others arms as Moses' arms were lifted by Joshua and Aaron, we are lifting their spirits and allowing them to walk in faith and keep their Joy. We are not as Job's wife, telling him to curse God and die. We are not his friends, asking him what he has done wrong, discouraging him.

So, my prayer requests are:

Matt's Grandmother is in a nursing home. She is being medicated unnecssarily (I know that is pretty much protocol, but it is wrong anyway). We have spoken with every family member involved. I pray God will uncover the enemy in the darkness. Things are being hidden. Everyone is either lying or just covering themselves and shifting blame. The truth needs to come out and the best for Grandma needs to be done.

Psalm 89:15
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.

HSBAwards. It has been a grueling growing experience. ha... not grueling now, just when we were on a time-limit to research laws and make decisions. I pray things will go smoothly and those who are reveling in anything bad will find something else to revel in. Tho they have been a part of the blessing of friendships strengthened, unknowingly. The team really stepped up and got to know each other. God is good in all things.

Psalm 98:4
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Continue to pray for Gena and Susanna. Sus is getting along great. Remember how we all need prayer for sleep, strength and God's providence when we bring our newborn home those first few weeks. Pray for the whole Suarez clan that they will enjoy this new little SweetiePie.

Psalm 126:5
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Personally, we need to move. Need to. It is already too cold, and our heat bill has gone up so  much with gas increases. We have *got* to get the part we added on finished. We have windows to replace, and there are still things in the barn to do. This is Matt's busy season, so time that he has to do it is will be scarce.

Psalm 30:5
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

I think we may have more goat kids this winter too, and I remember how stressful that was. I pray it will go so much better this time for any kidding does. Eric and Rachel found their first egg from the hens... I am stressing about that too. I still need to build some laying areas for them. And it is time to kill the roosters. That is stressing me out too. Not too much, and believe me, there are much more pressing needs I cannot share with you, and these are nothing compared to them, but they are little irritations anyway.

Psalm 5:11
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

Other than that, I have felt some weight lifted, as I checked out IN homeschool laws and read what I had previously missed. So, high school in IN is not quite so stressful, and I think we can move ahead easier. Praise the LORD. I need to get back into more structure though. Only a bit. Enough to keep everyone doing their duties and helping us to be good stewards of what the Good Lord has given us.

blessings!~

Precious Past - BFS #6

1:10 AM, Wednesday, October 10, 2007 .. Posted in Training Hearts Blogger Friends School .. 17 comments .. Link

This week's assignment is to share a piece of your past.  The assignment is to post a baby picture and share a special Scripture that reminds you of your past. Each piece of our childhood years plays an important part of in who we are today.

I have posted this picture of me as a baby before, and I am about 3 months old. This photo sits on the shelf in our living room, and Caleb thought it was Lucy. It took me awhile to convince him and Isaac it was me as a baby. Now looks at it and says Momma, and so does Isaac.

I don't have a Scripture that reminds me of my past, really. I grew up going to church every Sunday at the catholic church I went to school at, but I don't recall a particular Scripture. One thing that I did remember the first time I heard it i a song that I grew up with was the LORD's Prayer.

Matthew 6:9-13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Thanks for stopping by to see my picture and read my verse! Please sign my Mr. Linky so that I can visit your blog and see your picture too! ;)

Blog Banners - Made By Me BFS Assignment #5

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Welcome to my Blogger Friends School Assignment #5: Say It In Signs! I had way too much fun on this assignment. I guess that's why I am #73 on Tamara's Linky! :( It took me awhile to get computer time and banners uploaded!

Anyway, I made all of these myself, on our little Paint program, so, I did my best, and it will be fun to use Amanda's and Jocelyn's new graphics programs when they get them! Hehehee

First off, I looked for a schoolroom with a

chalkboard and desks, because, well,

that's what we do mostly... homeschool life!

And, you can't have a classroom without books - and a

Bible, so here is my collection:

Then, I had to do the white 15 passenger, well, because we drive one! Ha! God blesed us with our van a few years ago, after we had been driving 2 vehicles everywhere as a family. I love our van and love driving it!

We love to cook and bake here, and one of my fondest memories when I get older is the girls cooking out of the Betty Crocker Cookbook that Matt's dear Grandmother gave me for Christmas almost 15 years ago. I wasn't sure about the gift when I got it, but, oh, did I learn how much I loved and appreciated it.

As I was searching, I found a picture of the BC Cookbook my mom used when I was younger, and it brought back memories!

Speaking of memories, I am also a Creative Memories Consultant, though I don't get to scrapbook as much as I used to and would love to right now! So, I searched for a couple of pictures with CM products, and this is what I came up with!

And, yes, I will ship you anything you order from me, so let me know if you would like to order! ;)

I made this banner for my blog a few months back. I went down the road here and took the picture myself, cropped it and added the text. I didn't really think about putting my name on it at the time, but I saw it the other day on a blog sidebar and think maybe I should have!

And, last, but not least, our favorite "no-no". OREOS! hehehhee... no, really, I wanted to see if I could do it. It turned out ok, considering there is no OREO FONT!

Also, please sign my Mr. Linky below and be sure to link your BFS Assignment #5 so we can all come over and check it out, ok?? If you are intereted in participating, you will find all the info at Tamara's Training Hearts blog. http://www.traininghearts.com/blog Also check out Amanda's and Jocelyn's posts, because they made their own graphics from scratch too (they are more creative than I am!)
