For the past few months, we've been making a concerted effort to simply relax together on Sundays, as a family. Today we actually didn't relax... we went to the fair! J was obsessed with seeing some cows, which we finally saw in the petting zoo (the cattle stables were closed to all but the exhibitors). R was more interested in amassing as many snacks as possible. We ended up having glazed pecans and almonds, kettle corn, cotton candy, fudge... I think that's it. Good thing we ate lunch first! The kids also did a $2 "fishing" game (the kind that you use a magnet to catch a little metal fish, and your prize size is on the bottom of it) where they both won a "small" prize. They each chose a neon green stuffed frog. When we got home, they spent a good half hour quietly (i.e. without crying, tattling, fighting, hitting, hair-pulling... you get the idea) constructing a "house and obstacle course" out of blocks for their frogs. That was $4 well spent.
Tonight is NOT a new Desperate Housewives (now you know my dirty little secret... I am addicted to Desperate Housewives!), so I'll be planning for the week. For a while now we've been doing reading, phonics, and math every day for school, and I think I'm ready to add in science a few days per week. It's working out much better to add in subjects gradually... I tried doing it all at once earlier in the school year, and it was too overwhelming for all of us. I think we'll plan on not taking an extended break during the summer to keep us on an even keel. I'm still considering Konos for next year, and keeping an eye on the ebay auctions.
I'm still doing the Purpose-Driven Life book, though on reading it for the second time, I realize how much I've grown in my faith since last year... last year it all seemed like new information for me, and this year it's just a review of truths that I already know well! I'll continue it through Lent, though. Then I'll probably pass it on to someone else.
Well, I'm off to throw in the last load of laundry and get ready for dinner. Have a good week! |
