Apr. 6, 2006 - Book Lover's Take Note!

You must check out www.paperbackswap.com !  You can list all the books you've read and/or are ready to get rid of and get credit for free books!  It's easy and so fun!

We do need more homeschoolers in the mix though, so join up!!!  I just got many great books, including "The Sacred Romance" and "Bringing Up Boys" for the cost of simply shipping out one of my old books via medai mail!

If you decide to join, you can give my email address and I can get more credits as well (tababylon@comcast.net).  But please join regardless!  You may have books I want to read!

Feb. 7, 2006 - Servants, yah, I got 'em!

Willa and Dot, that's their names.

I give them their work every morning and every afternoon.  Just like most servants they need quite a bit of overseeing.  I have to check on them fairly frequently and give them more work when I see them just sitting around.

I've just recently eased into a more personable relationship with these ladies.  I'm more thankful for them than I used to be.  Afterall, not everyone has servants like these.  I used to think I couldn't be like the Proverbs 31 woman because of a lack of servants.  No excuse now.

Since striking up a more congenial working relationship with the old gals, I think I'll try to become friendly with some of the other servants around the house.  Yes, I have quite a few.  Don't you?

Dh still refers to the girls as Washer and Dryer, hopefully he'll come around soon.  In the meantime, I greet them with a smile now and thank God for their help.

Jan. 16, 2006 - Monday's Musings

Things I've learned today:

1.  You can spend an entire morning getting great new crockpot recipes off the web (and feeling quite "homemaker-ish" in the process) and STILL not have anything actually edible ready for dinner at 5:30.

2.  Your old grey carpet and a berry NutriGrain bars can both be considered "art supplies" by an creative 4 year old.

3.  Age appropriate toys should be given to the inquisitive 19mo while homeschooling her brothers (Note to self: red ink pens probably aren't a good choice)

4.  Baby wipes remove red ink from chubby baby thighs without too much effort.

Nov. 21, 2005 - Thank you Titus 2's!!!

How found myself unable to think of much to blog because I'm so busy enjoying some wonderful blogs of some great Titus 2 women here at homeschoolblogger.com.  In particular I've discovered taminaz and hiswillingvessel!  What a blessing!

Thank you to all who posted comments or added me to their friends lists!  I'm still figuring this all out so I hope to get a handle on it soon.

Nov. 17, 2005 - Methods & Curriculum

We are currently using the K12 program through a virtual charter school.  Which essentially means my son is officially a public school student and not homeschooled.  However, he does not physically attend any school.  My son is in Kindergarten this year.  We did Sonlight for PreK.  After lots of discussion my dh and I decided to go the K12 route and see how it worked out.

Pros:

FREE!

No lesson planning for newbie mom!

No record keeping

Individualized for each child

No peer influence

Cons:

Public School curriculum

Standardized testing

I'll be looking around to see if anyone else out there is doing K12.
