Here is another FREE program for homeschooling families. It's KISS Grammar
and it seems to use living books. I haven't explored it
much. I knew about it once awhile back, then forgot about
it. Recently someone at the Old Fashioned Education Yahoo group
shared it again and when I went to check it out I went - oh, yeh! I
forgot about this site.
If you're looking for a free grammar program (2nd - 12th)go by and
check it out. If you are already using it, leave a comment and
let us know what you think.

Nov. 2, 2006 Homeschool Buyers Co-op
I remember reading about this awhile
back. I don't remember where I first heard about it,
actually. What I do remember is that I thought at the time - wow!
that's a good idea.
Then this week I called MaineMommyDeb to see if she had a microscope
(because she has "everything" ) that we could borrow. Short story
made long - there was no way I was going to borrow the mircoscope she
has cause it's just way too cool for us. At the same time she
forwarded me an email from Homeschool Buyers Co-op where they were offering a discount on microscopes to members.
Membership is -- yes, FREE. So please go by check out there site
and sign up - you just never know what they'll have for discounts where.
Also, while you're there, they have a Free Curriculum & Resources
page. Be sure to check it out and let me know what you think.
Blessings in your home education endeavors,
MaggieRaye

Nov. 2, 2006 Reading Rainbow Teacher Guides
I got a catalog in the mail the other day
from the company that distributes the Reading Rainbow shows on VHS
& DVD. While this is a nice resource they are rather pricey
at $29.95/show.
However, I have many of the books that they feature on Reading
Rainbow. And what I wanted to share here with you is that
on their website they have free (yes my favorite word, I know) teachers guides.
So go by and visit, see if you have any of the books and if you do,
maybe you'll find ideas that you can use in your homeschooling efforts.

Oct. 3, 2006 Book Samaritan
A big thank you to cmphotomommy for this link to Book Samaritan.
I don't know alot about it. I've only just begun to check out
their site and email them. It seems that if you are a
homeschooling family with limited funds, resources etc. They will
help provide instructional materials to help in your homeschooling.
If you have any experience with Book Samaritan please leave a comment and let us know how it worked for you.
Again, I'll say it, single parents do/can/should homeschool and the resources to support us in this effort are growing!

Sep. 29, 2006 An Old Fashioned Education
I discovered this awhile back and have been
meaning to post it here for all of you. It's another FREE (yes,
we like that word) online curriculum.
An Old Fashioned Education
The writer is Miss Maggie, but sadly, it is not me, no I didn't think
this up, but I think she's done an excellent job! Another
complete (K-12) curriculum, using those old tried and true books.
Be sure to go by and check it out. Let me know what you think.
Blessings, MaggieRaye

Apr. 3, 2006 Women At Home University
This is not an actual university, but a FREE ministry that offers a
list of over 1000 titles that provide insight into all areas of being a
keeper at home. They have a neat article on how the ministry got
started, too. I think this is definitely the best Keepers at Home
website, in terms of those of us training up younger women. The
list is broken down into four years worth of reading (hence the
university). This is another site, that I printed out entirely, for future use with my own daughter and the teens I work with.

Apr. 3, 2006 Robinson's Self-Teaching Curriculum
This curriculum was a huge blessing to me, when I started
homeschooling. I found they had a scholarship program.
(Contact them for specific details.) This allowed me to purchase
the 22 CD's at a price I could afford. I was also able to
purchase the entire collection of GA Henty's works on CD at the same
time. I printed out the entire website and read through it in addition to printing out various books as we've needed them.
I liked the freedom to teach phonics and math facts myself, and then to
use literature as the basis for the rest of learning. If you're
looking for something with sceince, this may not be the curriculum for
you as Dr. Robinson believes that to teach science the child must first
understand advanced math. This is a great curriculum to use,
however, if you're planning on doing nature studies for Science.
Robinson's recommends Saxon Math, beginning at Saxon 54 once the child
has solidly memorized all of their math facts. They even offer a
discount on Saxon products for those who use their curriculum. I found that the Charlotte Mason approach to home education worked nicely with this curriculum. Mar. 30, 2006 Free Stuff For Homeschoolers & All Things In Common
Our own Homeschool Blogger has two blogs
that offer assistance that may be helpful to single parent families in
need of support in their home education endeavors. My friend Julie is your hostess over at Free Stuff For Homeschoolers.
Julie, like Laura, and myself, prefer things that are FREE, and I mean
really FREE! Julie even has her own e-Newsletter of Free Stuff
for Homeschoolers. Be sure to stop by her blog, say hi, and sign
up for her e-Newsletter. It's FREE. And if you can't find
what you're needing, be sure to ask. My friend Sharra is your hostess over at All Things In Common
(ATIC). Based on Acts 2:44, this is an opportunity for us as a
homeschooling community to share what we have that others are in need
of. Kind of like the attic at grandma's farm in times gone
by. We all have stuff we don't use. Here's a great place to
pass it on. It is also an excellent place to share a need that
you might have. Who knows I may have the book you're looking for
right here in my "stuff" closet. My prayer is that the Lord
(true to His promise) will provide exactly what it is you need and that
we will be His vessels in the process. Blessings from your hostess, MaggieRaye

Mar. 30, 2006 Laura's Free Links
Laura
just emailed me (I requested them) the following links. I haven't
personally visited them. If you find a link that doesn't work or
is no longer active. Please email me so I can delete it.
With your help, I'll keep the site as up-to-date as possible.
Blessings, MaggieRaye
I love free - especially when it really is free!
There are so many on this site I haven't looked at them all (I must have seen something good or I wouldn't have saved it. ) www.trip1.org/wsheets.htm
I
haven't found any worksheet sites for science. I'm still looking. All
my sites for science are either for supplies, or video clips, or
information.
I find all kinds of stuff out there and I save it. I may not need it now, but you never know when it will come in handy.
And I love free!

Mar. 30, 2006 Ambleside Online
Ambleside Online This
is a free online curriculum, that covers more subjects than most
curriculums you can purchase. It covers all the ages K-12.
It is an excellent resource for those with limited budgets, those just
beginning homeschooling and those who love the Charlotte Mason approach
to education. A word of caution:
Do not let the amount of material to be covered each year overwhelm
you. You can adapt the curriculum to best suit the needs of your
individual family.
