OK, so maybe it WILL kill you...

... Posted in This, that and something else

Ever hear a teen (or adult for that matter) say those infamous words, "Well, it never killed anybody"???

A teen girl from Newfoundland is dead, and according to the coroner, there is a good chance that an infection from a body peircing is the culprit.

Question: how many of you have children that have something pierced? (including ears)

I'll answer first: none of my 5 children do (4 are girls), and I had my ears pierced twice as a kid (note: I cannot wear even the most expensive of earrings now due to infections).

Neither of my kids have shown an interest in piercings. They are both pretty young to be requesting that sort of thing, however. My son (9) would probably shy away from piercings due to the pain factor, and my daughter (4) is too young to notice.

I had my ears pierced twice when I was younger. I have let them grow over, however. I didn't wear earrings when I had babies (didn't want them being grabbed it, if you know what I mean!). I don't plan on getting them re-pierced as I almost never wear any jewellry besides my wedding band.

I have 2 girls, neither of which have anything peirced, but that is due to my husbands wishes, not mine. This stems from my childhood when all my friends had thier ears peirced and I did not. I would have loved to have gotten their ears peirced when they were infants, before age 2, but my husband says no not until they can ask for it and understand what it means, so probably around age 8 or so. I wasn't allowed to get mine done till I was 16, or so was the rule in the house, but I am the baby of the family and my parents came down to age 12. I now have 2 holes in each ear and I did have a 3rd, which was my first, but I didn't take care of it and wore hoop earings or dangly earings to bed and the holes started to become larger and slip down on my lobes, far enough that if I had left them any longer I would have had a split in my ear lobe. Those are closed over.
Blessings,
Bethany.
