Getting to know Jesus
... Posted in Faith and the Gospel
My second oldest daughter, J, is doing the tan book of LLATL and has The Bronze Bow for her current novel study. I'm always up for a good book, so I sat down to read it too, but I was totally unprepared for this particular one.
It's about a young man named Daniel, who is bent on avenging his father's death at the hands of the Romans. He and many others are awaiting a deliverer, like Moses was, and are ready and willing to fight for the cause. Enter Jesus of Nazareth, whose preaching and teaching touch their hearts and minds, and changes all who hear Him.
It started out slowly... and I couldn't keep away from it. I had to find out what would happen next, particularly when Daniel met up with or listened to Jesus. Several times, I just started crying (that never happens to me). Sometimes I got goosebumps. Mostly I came away feeling like I got to know my Saviour a little better, and really realizing what it means for it to be all about Him. One little sentence in the book pretty much sums it up: To know Jesus would be enough.

My son just finished reading it. We use LLATL and I hadn't read the book yet...but now maybe tonight I'll go grab his copy.

Hey Jen...
My dc are doing LLATL too, as you probably know. It is good to hear what lies ahead. I LOVE books like that...historical fiction, and am glad to hear they are in the LLATL program. Perhaps I will be able to buy your used books when you are done with them to use when we get there!!!!! I have found some of the novels hard to find in our Library system. I have managed to borrow most of them, and have not had to buy yet.
But...keep me in mind, eh?
This is your first year with it, right?

We're due to read The Bronze Bow this spring with SL Core 6. There was a free study for it from Teaching The Classics that I downloaded last year.... now I just have to remember to pull it out when we get there! Glad to hear it's one to look forward to, Jen!
