A few brief comments

... Posted in This, that and something else

Firstly, I have had about enough of hearing about all the violence cartoons are responsible for.  Now there is a group of people in Halifax trying to soothe ruffled feathers ... I watched a piece on the news tonight about this, and what they said that's NOT in the article is basically (paraphrased, because I can't remember the exact quote), "Just don't say anything that'll set them off"... Isn't that kinda like telling a battered wife if she gets the daylights beat out of her, it's her fault because she said something wrong?

I'm not saying there was no reason to take offense in the first place... but there is a difference between taking offence, and taking lives. And a huge difference between being respectful and walking on eggshells.

Next rant.

People think they can see an image of Jesus in some cloth. Except one guy on the news the other night- he thought it was the Blessed Virgin (who, btw, didn't stay  a virgin, according to the Bible). Either way, I'm of the opinion that if God wanted an image of Himself that would wind up getting worshipped (and this will, trust me), He would've left out that little piece about graven images.

I can't see anything but a blob, but then, I can't see the Man in the Moon, either.

Finally....

I knew there was a reason I don't want anyone throwing balls in the house.

:: So sad... ::

... Posted in This, that and something else

Although I don't know her, my heart was touched this week by the story of Missey Gray. A fellow homeschooler, blogger, and mother of 5 was taken home to be with her Lord and Saviour. She was pregnant, and, having placenta previa (where the placenta is covering the cervix) she was taken in for a C-section. She never made it out of surgery. Amniotic fluid got into her bloodstream, causing a clot. Apparently this happens in about 1 out of every 200,000 sections. The baby was fine.

Her funeral was today.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family

Nighttime

Thought I'd post a pic of my city, Moncton, at night. It's taken from the Riverview side of the Petitcodiac River.

grrrrrrrr......

... Posted in This, that and something else

I am getting sooo tired of hearing about governmental plans for getting little ones out of their family homes.

I realize there is a need for daycare, when parents choose to both work, or a single mom needs to, but come on....

"We've taken the view that early childhood education is essential to the social well-being of our province, and in fact essential to the economic well-being of our province," Calvert said earlier this week.

Lorne Calvert is the Saskatchewan Premier.

What ever happened to parents caring for their own kids? To kids being kids, playing with the pots and pans, and making a mess with the flour bucket? Slamming the back door five million times a day, to show Mommy what new slimy thing they found in the backyard?

Even before I homeschooled it seemed silly to send my babies out to someone else's care! They were mine, after all....

*sigh*.......

Thank you, fellow hs'ers, for assuming responsibility for your children!!!

I'm getting there....

... Posted in This, that and something else

....slowly.

I've figured out how to get rid of those ridiculous question marks... but I had to pirate the little dots, since my keyboard doesn't seem to be equipped with them!!!

My next quest is to find a header background (up where my page title is) that is still brownish -- or even greenish-brown -- with maybe some faint coffee cups or teacups on it. And I think I'll have to change that caramel-looking colour on the sidebar.

I heard today that President Bush had a nice chat on the phone with our newly-elected Prime Minister. Oh, to have been privy to THAT conversation!!! It was no secret that Mr President didn't have the greatest of rapport with Paul Martin. Only time will tell just what kind of leader Stephen Harper will make, but it certainly can't be worse than what we've had.

Winter has returned!!! Tonight we are to get 5-10 cm of snow, with winds gusting to 90 km/h. Roads were getting bad as we left Bible study, and I am looking forward to a nice, cozy, inside day tomorrow. A nice day to make stew with dumplings.

How to take an election into your own hands....

... Posted in This, that and something else

This guy figured out how to do just that.....

Oh yeah.... here in Canada we have a new Prime Minister! The Conservative Party (which stood against same-sex marriage among other things) has won, so say hello to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

I just read an article written by HSB's sweetheart JenIG. It really spoke to my heart. Maybe it'll speak to yours.

First week back- next week

... Posted in This, that and something else

Earlier today I had all kinds of ideas about a cool blog entry. Now that I have the time to sit and write it--- g o n e.... my mind is a near blank.

Oh well.

Maybe tomorrow.

I'm going to check out JenIG's blog. Always gives me a lift.

ps... I added a link to my brother-in-law's furniture business, FHL Furniture. He's a pretty talented carpenter, and a sweet guy. He must've called a million times while our son was in ICU right before Christmas-- to find out how his buddy was doing. Long distance too.
