Dueling Bloggers

I would venture to say that for most home school parents, getting some of their kids to write can be like pulling teeth. At my house, it's not like that. Yesterday I was deep in thought – minding my own business, when my son Eric (blogboy) said, "I have to write more blogs. I only have forty-seven. I have to watch out, or you'll pass me up!"

"Wait a minute," I said, "I only have forty. What on earth are you talking about?"
He continued to explain how we needed to compete for blog entries to see who can reach fifty first.
"Fifty???"I say, "No way, it's gotta be something big, like seventy-five." (now I see how easily Eve was deceived. “The serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord had made”)Before I realize what’s happening, I have agreed that the first one to reach seventy-five gets an all expense paid trip to the China Buffet (a favorite reward for motivating otherwise uninterested parties). Great idea, I think to myself, bad timing!

What's so ridiculous about becoming a dueling blogger right now? Well, I’m in the middle of finishing a writing project. I don't have time to blog – well, excessively that is. You see, all day long Eric can think of blog topics revolving around his miserable existence as a fourteen year-old-homeschooler, who lives with a mother who is about to fly off...the handle...I...I mean keyboard. I guess that would be a rather dramatic incident to blog about. Kind of like when your cat gets caught in the fan belt of your car engine. It’s not pretty!
I know…I'll lock him in his bedroom (without internet access, of course, so he’ll run out of things to write about.) Oh, but I think there’s laws against that kind of thing. I mean, as far as I know, running out of things to write about is illegal in most states. What do you think?

Well, thirty-four more blogs to go...in the meantime back to my writing project – blah!

wow

Were do you find the time? I have two Blogs and that's a challenge. That's great that your son has caught the bug.

You Are a Pace Setter

You've got me beat! I just checked and saw that I have 39 entries . . . so I guess that means I have 36 to go! I like China Buffet . . . I'll take the challenge! It's funny, our Home School Mom's Book Club met at China Buffet last Christmas for a special outing. Blog On!

Love the duel idea!

You definitely have some motivated writers in your family, Jill!

Here's a little tip to help you win the duel. Lots of folks recommend that blog entries be brief--only a paragraph or two. So maybe you can break down your blog ideas into smaller chunks and multiple entries. My own natural tendency is to get long-winded when I'm writing, but when I'm reading blogs, I usually appreciate conciseness.

I'll be keeping my eye on this mother-son duel! Maybe I should challenge my 13yo Forrest, who's been dragging his feet about starting his own blog.

Smiling...

Oh I had to smile this morning when I read this post. Just yesterday my dear daughter who is 14yrs old, and who got me into blogging in the first place, mentioned on her blog that she has got to get it figured out - but her mom has more friends on listed on her blog than she has and she doesn't know why! Funny how kids watch what we are doing - more than we realise I guess, which leads me to the realisation of how carefully we should live our lives before them...Great that your son likes writing!

Fun idea, Jill!

I'll have to pop in later and see who wins!
