My Nature Journal - Swamp Milkweed
Swamp Milkweed - (Asclepias incarnata) July 2005 I don't know if you've ever seen swamp milkweed, but it is one of my most favorite plants. Last year I spotted some growing alongside the road near a pond. I made Eric get out of our van and pick some for me so that I could draw it. I didn't know what it was until I looked closely at the flower and realized that it must be some kind of milkweed. A few weeks later we found some growing in our landlady's flowerbed. We have no idea how it got there because her flowerbed is in a dry location. I saved some of the pods last fall but forgot to plant them. I thought Robert pulled it up this spring when he weeded, but it bloomed again. Its heavenly smelling and the bees and butterflies love it.
