March 8, 2007 - At the Zoo
We visited a zoo in Thailand where we got up close with some local animals.

I think my DD is pretty wise. She chose to hold this tiny one instead of some much larger ones.

This is advertised as "Hold the Baby Tiger." But in fact it's simply a photo opportunity. It's not about holding the tiger at all; it's about posing for a picture! The whole process takes about 15 seconds. DD wanted to enjoy petting the tiger and admiring it rather than posing for a photo. (But she did give me a smile!) My animal-lover DD felt totally betrayed! When the zoo workers started taking the tiger off her lap, she pulled it back! We asked if we could pay extra to simply hold and pet the animal, but we were refused. :-(
But it was a fun outing anyway!

I had read your blog some time ago, but then lost the link. Today when I was at MSAcademy's blog, I saw your comment to her post, and you mentioned being in China. SOO... I thought, great, now I know who that is! I will put you in my friends list so I can come back to your blog more often.
Oh, tell your little dd that even though she only got a few seconds with that tiger, she has lived a dream of many people.. myself included! Tigers are my very favorite animals. When I was a little girl I used to pretend I had a pet tiger. I would love an opportunity to get as close to one as your dd did... and I would also be doing what she did.. pulling it back if anyone tried to pry it from me!! lol!
hugs, Shelly

My dd felt the same way in Australia when she wanted to hold the koala.

Your daughter is such a cutie! How fun to hold a baby tiger, I don't blame her for wanting to hold it longer. I wouldn't have held the alligator... what would be the point? It wouldn't enjoy my holding it anymore than I would enjoy touching it.
