May 28, 2007 - Tri-Fold Mini-books for Lapbooking

The tri-fold mini-book is one of my favorite folds. It's easy and versatile. Remember, even if you don't lapbook, you can still make an occasional mini-book to record whatever topic you're learning about.

It's called a tri-fold because you start with a piece of paper folded in thirds as if you were going to mail it as a letter.

You can use it like that, or you can cut the trifold to resembe a shape for a more interesting book.

For example, this cute dolphin book is a tri-fold. By cutting out a head and tail and adding on fins to the back, this tri-fold is very interesting.

When the trifold is opened, it looks like this. You have four pages to write on.

For tri-folds, we always use cardstock. It holds up better than regular paper. If you would like this dolphin trifold template, see my files at HomeSchool Launch.

Here are other tri-folds.
A space capsule from our Space lapbook.

And a fish from our Ocean lapbook.

Both of these -- the space capsule and the fish -- are on my HomeSchool Launch files as templates. I'm sure you will think of many other uses for the versitile tri-fold!

Ok, these just look like so much fun. I think I'm going to incorporate some of them into our schooling next year. But, what in the world do you do with all the finished projects? Do you store them...secretly toss them...do you have a system for that?

sorry about that. ;-) i guess you can tell the food is a bit limited here in our little corner of the globe. it's not bad, but the same 5 dishes over and over and over... i probably should reread the passages where the israelites gripe about the manna, right??? ha, ha. mary

Great little learning aids. I would love to do stuff like this, but my DS dislikes coloring. Must find away to adapt!

Another great idea! My 6 yo would love this! We will have to make some. She would like to make a lapbook everyday, this could be the answer!

How long does it take you to do one lapbook? I don't know if I can see myself doing this everytime the kids read a book. It seems time s=consuming...I'm considering trying it though.
