June 14, 2007 - Simple Pleasures

I cannot tell you what joy our household experienced over such a simple thing.
Doritos.
Do I need a trademark symbol here?
I've got to get back to the store where I found these. The six bags I bought are all eaten! (These are small -- each bag would be considered a single serving in USA.)
Have you ever praised God for Doritos and cheese? :-) Simple pleasures are the BEST. Another big plus to living here -- small things bring such delight!
Mexican food is coming.....

Mexican food is next? I don't know how you've survived without it. :) Please tell us how you get the cheese and other goodies. Since it sounds rare, did you just find a good supplier?
ahhhh. Doritos.

Jimmie,
I have been enjoying your blog for a couple months! I felt compelled to comment after reading your rejoicing over cheese, cheddar cheese! I love mexican food and believe it would be a GREAT treat to eat mexican after not having it for so long! Enjoy!
Gods Blessing to You,

Coming to live in England almost 14 years ago I couldn't find many familiar foods. (not as different as you though since I could get lots of basic ingredients to make them myself) I still remember the day I found El Paso taco mix and tortillas on the grocery store shelves!!!! Sheer joy!! Or when Doritos came to England for the first time!! Now we are quite spoiled with American products so it is some of the more obscure things I'm missing these days. LOL! The latest for about a year and half has been Provolone cheese!!!! I grew up on it and eat copious quantities of it when I'm at home visiting. Mom has been amazed that you can buy it loads of places back home in America and I live in England, much closer to Italy and can't find it ANYWHERE! This week a new deli opened in our nearby town and I went in and asked about provolone. The owner rang me yesterday to tell me that he has ordered it in and I can go and buy some tomorrow when I go to town!!!!!! YIPPEE! HORRAY! (that blur was me turning cartwheels around the house-you know the feeling. Like cheddar cheese!)

Good morning (or good night as you are probably close to opposite of here [EST]). Thanks for your friendly visit back to my blog. (:
I spent two years teaching music (and language arts[!!!]) in Almaty, KZ, at the international school, trying to figure out what God wanted me to do with my life. (: Then he brought me my awesome husband, John, and took me back to Baltimore. We generally travel where there are medical programs he can do research with--mostly India, and a few other places. I don't think there are plans to go back to Kazakstan, although I would enjoy that. I would probably prefer to go back to some of my real childhood places in the Middle East, like Jordan, if we were traveling just for pleasure. (:
Warmly,
Lori

I haven't been online much lately (except the last day or two, LOL!), and I finally got a chance to come by and get updated through your blog.
Have I told you that you're one of my favoritist (is that a word?) bloggers recently? :-)
As always, I love all of the pictures and commentary. You have such a talent for sharing China.

I always get a kick out of the funny English signs. When I lived in the US, chedder cheese was my absolute favorite food. I haven't been able to eat it here in Turkey for the last ten years, so when I read your post I felt a wee bit jealous. Enjoy it for me. I'm sure I have some privileges that you don't get to enjoy.
Blessings today,

I lived in Norway several years ago, and I totally understand your excitement over finding much-loved food items. It's extremely frustrating to have a craving that you can't satisfy. I'm so glad you were able to acquire some cheddar cheese!
