August 7, 2007 - Ancient China Lapbook

I've been collecting pictures, websites, and clip art about China for a long time, but the trip to Xian made it all so real to DD. The time had come for a lapbook on Ancient China! We'd just finished all the history in Sonlight Core 2, so we studied Ancient China for two weeks as our history.

The book that is open is about the Silk Road and the production of silk. I found this great printable about making silk!

I have posted more detailed photos of the lapbook at Flickr.

I have also uploaded to HSLaunch some of the mini-books that we made --
These are PDF templates that you can print or save. I couldn't find graphics that I liked, so I made my own drawings!

Remember, you don't have to make an entire lapbook to use mini-books. A mini-book can stand alone as its own project.

For more information about creating a unit study about Ancient China, please see my latest Squidoo lens Ancient China: a Homeschool Unit Study.

August 7, 2007 - COOL!!!!!!

Ok...this is SO cool!
Jimmie you are so creative and humble!
You always make me feel like I could do this too.
And I think...oh Jimmie I don't know?
But possibly I'll give it a try. We are going to put our lapbook pages in our notebooks this year. After they make their lapbooks I just don't know what to do with them. Actually I'd like to frame them, maybe that is strange house decor. But the children spend a lot of time making them, and then I put them away in a tote.

Your daughter is beautiful and delightful. I love that dress. I had a similar one for Grace when she was a baby. Your daughter's hair looks adorable too.

I appreciate the way you never complain about being away from your family and friends. You just make the best of where you are, with what you have. This gift of contentment to your daughter is very precious!

The other lady who commented hit the nail right on the head. You are so humble and that is what makes it such a delight to see what you share and your talent. I have decided - I want you to homeschool ME! haha
P.S. By the way, I only left 2 anonymous comments when I couldn't sign in - so that third anonymous comment is a mystery person! :)

This is sooo cool! I just entered a competition this afternoon to win a family adventure holiday. (of course we never win these things but I can always dream can't I?) I could choose all these wonderful places in the world that I would like our holiday to be to and I chose CHINA!! It is from Beijing to Hong Kong and even includes the Terracotta soldiers!! I'll be sure to tell you if we actually win it (dreaming here again) because it would be sooooooooo cool to get to meet up! Anyway, I think I'll get my head out of the clouds and back to earth now!

Thanks for visiting my blog and your kind comments. I cannot take credit for the beauty of my blog. A dear friend did that! I think your blog is lovely! I also loved looking at the pictures of your lap books for Ancient China and the "Chinese" writing looked authentic to me! :) We will be studying Ancient China here soon. I plan to show the girls the pictures from your blog! Thanks!

Have a blessed day! In Him, Eva
