August 13, 2007 - Artist Study Resources

If you also are using a Charlotte Mason approach to studying art or would like to learn more about it, I've collected some resources and made a web page Artist Study -- Charlotte Mason Style.  If you have any favorite links you'd like to see added there, leave me a comment here or there. I'd especially like any of your blog entires that deal with CM art study.

And I've also started a Yahoo group called by the same name. Yahoo groups has everything, but I was surprised to not find any group about CM styled art. So I invite you to check out these new resources.

ArtistStudyCM Yahoo group

Although I consider myself a CM educator, I know that there are many areas where I do not fit the bill. Some are areas where I choose to differ and others are areas where I would very much like to be more CM, but I'm just not there yet. I've learned that with CM you really need to take baby steps -- implement one or two aspects at a time. When they become natural, they add another.

I would say that artist study has finally become natural in our homeschool. My next goal is nature study!  I've joined CM Nature Study Yahoo  group in a effort to find some motivation and maybe accountability. It's a fairly new group and looks to have some moms who have some great ideas about nature study! I know what to do, but actually doing it seems to be the problem for me.

(If you're wondering who in the world is Charlotte Mason, you can find some general information about her philosophy here: Charlotte Mason Basics.)

Thank you so much for sharing this! I just took the time to read through your entire squidoo page and it gave me so many ideas on how to better incorporate the study of art into our homeschool. I am not really much of a Charlotte Mason homeschooler; though, as the years go by, I find that I do tend to lean more that way (on my own). We have not had a consistent art study yet, and I've been wanting to, so I will definitely be using some of your awesome ideas and resources!

Hello. I am so new to the CM way. But I really liked what you said about taking little changes at a time. We are starting with Nature Study. I am really excited to implement her ways into all of our schooling. I will heed your warning. :-) Also, if you don't know Keri (www.homeschoolblogger.com/keri), you need to go see her blog. She is doing a lot with CM and art this year.
Blessings.

I'd really be interested in both of those groups, but I'm finding that I'm already overwhelmed keeping up with the groups I'm already subscribed to. I will check out your new website though!

How cool are you??? I was just thinking today that I really needed to put at least a little thought into how we do art study! I can't wait to check out your site and group.

And by the way, I would NEVER mark China off on my folder! I'm chalking those marks up to my "personal secretary" when she was younger. :-)

I will have to get on here tomorrow and check into your CM links...as CM style is what we do also...I just saw on the news ticker a bridge collapse in your neck of the world...less than 2 weeks after the one here....wanted to make sure you were ok and ask if the news there is like it was here almost 2 weeks ago with non stop coverage of the collapse....although last week NYC had a tornado and I haven't seen anything on that...I think that's important to note as well...and on 8/11/07 we heard on the radio a weather threat for Hawaii but that was all we heard....I get so tired of hearing about the latest celebrity....come on show some real news!
