I only see it when I go downtown, which is not very often anymore. Your samples are very interesting. The faces do not seem Asian to me oddly enough. Thanks.

Ugh! When you see so much talent, you just want to find them, shake them and try to help them use their talent in a positive way!

interesting that there is grafitti in China too.
thanks for checking on those videos that I posted the other day. unfortunately I have forgotten what I did to make them work so I'll have the same problem the next time I go to add videos!

Sometimes you see some at our abandoned railroad station but not much around here. THose ice leaves are amazing. I never thought about trying to collect them. The kids and I will have to try that.
Thanks,

We do have graffiti around us. The city does try to remove it quickly. My dc found it interesting to compare ours with yours. They were amazed to see that graffiti was not only in the US. Great post!

Too bad they don't use that talent to paint something that someone would pay them to do. We don't see much around my town just on the trains when they come through.

Oh yes we too have that. The police are great at getting it covered up in our area, due to gang problems (which in our are is very small). I always think if only they would take that talent and use it in a constructive direction, what a difference they could make in their lives.

It's wonderful how you managed to see past the immediate, the vandalism, to the creative side behind it. Makes me wonder about the person who did it, what his or her life is like, why he feels driven to express himself in that way, if there are any people in his life to point him to the One who can fill that void in his life, the ultimate author of his talent.
The angst of youth is apparent here in the states, both in cities and suburbs, as we travel, as it is across the world where you are. How wonderful that there is a loving God who cares about them all.
I love reading your posts about China. You have such a great attitude and perspective about things that come your way. Thanks

Yes it is very worthy of a picture. My kids took an art class a few years ago and part of the class was on "tags", ( graffiti). We took many photos of tags and the kids made their own on paper or jeans. While I disagree with graffiti I can see great talent in it. It is very hard to do! My husband is a train buff and often spends time in train yards taking photos. The folks that work in the yards tell stories about all the different tags that come through. They also mentioned how quickly the tags are painted.

I grew up in the city, so it was everywhere. The curse words and gang symbols annoy me, but I DO see the beauty in grafitti like this, and somehow it's becoming to a downtown area. It just seems to belong.
I watched a video about Dale Chihuly and how he worked with troubled teens with tremendous artistic ability and taught them the glass-blowing trade, directing their talent into something profitable and enabling them to turn their lives around. The comments reminded me of it.

The college I went to hired a bunch of kids to 'decorate' the ugly interior cinder-block walls of the stairwells all over campus with graffiti. They made some of the most amazing designs! I definitely see the artistic value in it - I just wish they would do it in 'appropriate' places.
