May 19, 2008 - Image from the Earthquake

The relief work continues in Si Chuan province, helping people affected by the recent earthquake. The news coverage here is non-stop. It reminds me of 911 or Katrina. You are gripped by the stories and often brought to tears.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, please visit this Flickr image entitled Never Part. It's truly powerful.

I encourage you to contribute to the relief effort through your local church organization or through the Red Cross. It truly impacts Chinese people when they realize that foreigners freely give to strangers in need.

I found out a couple days ago that my best friend's husband (they live in Poland) was on a business trip to China and was in the earthquake. He was about 60 miles from the epicenter. Thank God he was alright. He ran out of the building when the shaking started and had to wait most of the day for the building to be deemed safe to return. Even though it was cleared he ended up sleeping in the lobby that night instead of his 12th floor hotel room. He should be back in Poland by now. I am just so thankful he is safe. It really brought the reality of it home to me.
