March 9, 2006 - At the Drugstore
I
promise you that all of these pictures were taken at the corner
drugstore! In the store, one side is Chinese medicine; the other
side is Western medicine. These pictures are from the Chinese
medicine side, of course. The other side is so boring -- just
boxes of pills and tubes of ointment.

Snakes -- in all sizes.

Lizards and more snakes.

This makes me really sad. Seahorses are becoming more and more endangered. Why? Because they are used in Chinese medicine! Dried seahorses are on the second shelf. Notice the abacus on the top. This is a super huge one. You can be sure that it gets a lot of use!

This is a wide shot of the Chinese medicine drug store. All the
drawers behind the clerk are filled with various herbs, seeds, grasses,
etc. --all used for Chinese medicine. Looks so nice and orderly,
doesn't it? I'm assuming the blue and white jars on the very top
also have Chinese medicine.
The ladies in this shop were so kind to me and laughed about my taking pictures of what to them is just medicine.

Thanks for the pictures!!
What on earth do they do with snakes and seahorses? Do you know??
I love the abacus' you see them using everywhere, too!

My son just informed me that some people use snake venom as a stain remover. I doubt that's what this is about though. He does want to know what they use all that stuff in the store for though. Now he just told me that if you drink too much snake venom you will die. Uh, that's enough educational television for one night, sweetie.

I'll take a pill anyday over the other stuff. Gag. And, how appropriate that you evolved to a wiggly worm the same day you posted them!
I'll try to email you about the alphabetizing soon! Yes I was surfing the forums and found your post. :)

How interesting, Jimmie. So different from how we do things in the western world. And, I'm not convinced that we do things better...
Sad about the sea horses though...but, do they not 'farm' the animals they use in their medicines?
