October 12, 2008 - 50 States Notebook
We're making a 50 States Notebook as we go through American history. I made a simple 2 page template and printed it onto cardstock. You can access that on my HS Launch Page.

Sprite uses purchased stickers for the state flags and state birds. I printed images of the state quarters onto adhesive paper for homemade state quarter stickers. And of course, she writes facts onto each page as well.

From our postcard trading days, we have quite an assortment of state map and state capitol cards. We include those as well, using photo corners to stick them onto the blank backs of the notebooking pages.
At the beginning of the book, we're adding in some general information about America. Here are our branches of government, some symbols, and Washington DC.

Have any of you done a 50 states notebook?

May 11, 2008 - Notebooking/ Lapbooking the French and Indian War
Our WP American Story 1 curriculum includes a Make Your Own History Notebooking set. We've been using it in some creative ways, sometimes cutting out the text and repositioning it on another page with photographs of a related craft (like here). Other times, we do a lapbooking/notebooking combination like this page on the French & Indian War or as in an earlier post about Zuni pottery.

We simply added some embellishments to the pre-printed notebooking page from Winter Promise. The template for the minibook on the causes of the French & Indian War came from Peakmore Academy.
Then the notebooking page goes into our notebook timeline in the correct time period.
