Field trip
We had a field trip to Walter B. Jacobs park this past Friday with our church homeschool group. It's about a 40 minute drive from our house and we just LOVE going there (though we don't go as much as we probably should!) They have a nature center with different animals (live ones and stuffed ones), all kinds of things for the kids to touch (bones, rocks, sticks, etc) and they offer some really neat classes on request. This time we learned about the food chain and the park ranger showed the kids crickets, a tarantula, mice, 2 screech owls and a corn snake. Pretty neat! The kids got to touch the snake to see what she felt like. They also got to pet a live (small) alligator in one of the other rooms. We also took an interpretive hike on their trails with a ranger that showed the kids all kinds of neat things out in the wild. We ended the whole thing with a picnic out in the woods. All in all a very fun day!!
