Oct. 26, 2006 - "We had chocolate"
June 30th 1874
Emily came today and had tea with me. Though I had not the taste for eggs with my cake. We had chocolate. Caroline, our cook, helped me bake it. It tasted divinely good. I even made the frosting myself. Emily also brought her children. They are such darlings; they will sit and play quietly while Emily and I talk. She has raised them so well. She left before Jed come home and later she and her husband, Mr. White came over for dinner, as was planned. After dinner Jed and Mr. White talked for awhile in the study. What they talked about, I dont know.
The baby is growing bigger and it is hard for me to sleep. My mind is restless and I am ever so uncomfortable. Last night I slept on the floor. Mother and father say they are going to see an old friend for a while. It will just be Emily and me then.
Mrs. Wilson, the College presidents wife, is going out of town as well. So she will not be able to stop over for a couple of weeks. She is going to visit her daughter in Georgia. Well, its almost dawn and I better get back in bed before Jed wakes up. I couldnt sleep and thought I should write while I could. Jed will worry to know I was up at this hour.
