My kids are still young and I am still in the process of building Christmas traditions at our house, but here are what I have done so far.
Every year I try to make homemade ornaments. In the past I have done cinnamon ornaments, and this year we did some edible ornaments and salt dough ornaments.
For the longest while I have been wanting to make a gingerbread house. I finally took the plunge this year. It is still in the making, so more on that in a few days.
Every year we bake cookies and I try to vary and add new ones every time.
We also try to have an advent calendar. I have made up a new one this year, and I am hoping to keep it for the subsequent years.
Also in the past, I have done some Christmas related worksheets with the kids but this year I wanted to try something else with them to drive the story of Christmas home. I am still cogitating on that one.
Another thing I would like to add to our tradition is a nativity scene to make, but I do not seem to find one that I like and easy enough to make.
I found a Christmas Scripture quiz at Make Disciple, which I am planning to use to review the story of Jesus' Birth.
This is in a nutshell what we are doing and plan to do in the future.
It's 2 PM and I am sitting on the sofa, still in my pajamas. Joho is sick and lyig against me, and I am feeling sickish as well.
I somehow did mange to make a gingerbread dough this morning, with the help of the kids, for the gingerbread house that I intend to make today.
I came across this site this morning and this is where Zach is doing his school on today.
E-Learning forKids This is definitely worth trying out. I guarantee you will be pleased. It's got Math games, English, Science and other subjects which will help your child cement knowledge. Just now he has done a science course on an overview of the human body parts, of which he aced the test at the end, and where he learned about the heart, the lungs, the senses, the digestive system, the skin, the skeleton and muscles and the brain. He has also done 2 addition games and an opposites and similar words english exercice.
I will have to go take my shower at some point as I do have to take Zach to his violin lesson this afternoon.
My hubby on the other hand has already gone out this morning for a doctor's appointment at nine, and is now out again, which in a sense is better for him as getting sick, with his condition, is not advisable.
Anyway, I just thought I would post about this interesting day I am having. Anyone else has had days like this?
Today was Zach's birthday. It is hard to imagine how time flies, but here we are 6 years later. He is still the very spirited, outside the box thinker, happy, crazy boy that he was as a baby. He is just smarter now and knows better. We love him and are very proud of him. Our hearts are full of hopes for him.
He still had his violin group this morning, then had a playdate with some friends and then off to an hour of bowling. We all had fun.
Then back home for more play, presents, dinner and B-day cake.
We are so thankful to the Lord for our son and pray that the Lord will take hold of him and made a servant of Him for His glory.
For any of you who normally follow my blog, I am sorry I did not blog this week, but I was very busy working on a lapbook for my students at elective this week, since it was our last elective for this session. I will post the final product on Monday.
This project took me the whole on Tuesday, Thursday and part of Wednesday.
On Monday we went on a fieldtrip that took us the whole day. we went to the Royal Ontario winter fair. We all had a great time.
We did do school this week. Math, English and Science got squeezed in somehow.
Wednesday I did take the kids on a playdate for a few hours. They had fun!
Today was our last day of elective and I forgot my camera. Zach did well in his drama presentation. Could have spoken louder, but hey. . . His song presentation was nice too except he kept jiggleling during most of it. I found the whole thing rather funny.

As I mentioned before, I am not much of an outdoor and nature person, but today was a nice sunny day, so I decided to do the "right thing" and took the kids out to play in the leaves and get some much needed sun. We had a very nice time. I actually really love autumn!
This week was a break week for us. I designed the school year with a few breaks every 4-6 weeks of school. This is our second one since we started school in August. So, what did we do?
Well, Monday was Thanksgiving here in Canada, so we had some guests over and enjoyed a nice dinner.
Tuesday and Wednesday, we went to the Science Center and enjoyed The Body World Exhibit, a nature walk and of course the Kids' park section.
We had a library trip and played games.
Thursday, we stayed home and the kids had a lazy day doing whatever they wanted, as mom was busy getting ready for electives today.
Friday was our regular co-op day which went well.
That's our week in a snapshot, noting fancy, nothing extraordinary, rather lazy and laid back.
I am a christian wife and mother to 2 beautiful young boys who just started on the homeschooling journey. My desire is to train my children in the ways of the Lord while giving them a good education, all for the glory of our great and wonderful God. The road is not easy, specially when you try to do things God's way but the reward is well worth the effort.
To God be the Glory!
