• May. 20, 2009 - If You Love Apologia Like We Do - Check This Out!!

Posted By Courtney
Apologia is now producing notebooking journals that accompany each of the elementary science books. Both Botany and Astronomy are now available. You can see samples on the Apologia website here:

These journals are beautiful spiral bound notebooks that will save you time and money. You won't have to print and keep up with your child's notebook pages, buy and maintain page protectors, or purchase and compile binders...everything that makes notebooking time-consuming and labor intensive for mom. Also, your child will adore having their own notebooking journal.

Each of the notebooking journals include:
  • A daily schedule for those who like to have a plan or would like their children to complete the book on their own
  • Templates for written narrations, the notebooking activities and experiments
  • Review Questions
  • Scripture Copywork, with both print and cursive practice
  • Reading lists and additional activities, projects, experiments for each lesson
  • An appendix with beautiful, full-color, lapbook-style Miniature Books
  • Field Trip Sheets to keep a record field trips
  • A Final Review with fifty questions the students can answer either orally or in writing to show off all they remember and know at the end of the course.
See the sample pages here:

• May. 14, 2009 - Awesome Contest! Win a Complete Rosetta Stone Package!

Posted By Courtney

We use and love Rosetta Stone in our homeschool. Here is a chance to win your very own set:

Rosetta Stone is the fastest way to learn a language and has been the #1 foreign language curriculum among homeschoolers for a while — and you can WIN the *all new* version 3 Rosetta Stone Homeschool LATIN program… FOR FREE! This is the first year you can get Latin in the brand new Version III update.

This is a $259 program (and believe me it’s worth every penny!)
This is a computer based curriculum and Rosetta Stone will also include a headset with microphone, and a supplementary “Audio Companion” CD so you can practice lessons in the car, on the go, or where-ever! Students participate in life-like conversations and actually produce language to advance through the program. Rosetta Stone incorporates listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary and writing along with speaking and pronunciation lessons. For parents, the new Parent Administrative Tools are integrated into the program to allow parents to easily enroll up to ten students in any of 12 predetermined lesson plans, monitor student progress, grade completed work (the program grades the work automatically as the students progress- I love that!), and you can view and print reports for transcripts. Homeschooling a lot of kids at your house? This program is designed to enroll and track up to ten students (five users on two computers) and will work for nearly all ages — from beginning readers up to college students.

To win this most excellent Latin program copy these paragraphs and post them in (or as) your next blog post, and/OR link to the contest from your facebook page and/OR email the information to your homeschool support group – Then go to the original page http://Jeneralities.com and leave a comment saying that you’ve posted about, or have linked to, the contest. Please make sure the link works to get back to the original contest page when you post. And good luck!

• Mar. 7, 2009 - A Forest Fire, and other updates...

Posted By Joseph 4 Jesus

Hello everyone!  It's been a long while since I last posted but anyway I'll start off with what has been going on.  On thursday while we were burning brush outside, I was carrying a shovel full of flaming coals to help start one of the piles on fire, while I was walking down a hill, a couple of the coals fell off of the shovel and into some leaves near the forest.  A while later we noticed it and that a fire had been started by the coals, my dad said for us to quickly put it out, and while we were trying to stop the fire from spreading, a huge gust of wind picked up some of the flames and carried them deeper into the woods!  We quickly tried to gather some tools and stuff to help put out the fire, also my mom ran inside to look for the fire extinguisher, but she couldn't find it anywhere!  By then the fire had gotten really deep and was getting out of hand.  My dad quickly called the Fire Department while we still tried to do all we could to put the fire out. Finally, we all started gathering bucket fulls of water, and thank the Lord for those and all of us working together, because we were able to hold the fire off long enough in time for the Fire Department to come and help.  The fire continued to get deeper into the forest, but just before it crossed a path into another part of the forest that was packed full of deadwood, we were able to put the fire out.  Praise the Lord!!!  It was a close call, but nobody got hurt, thank the Lord.  Anyway, today on the seventh of March we succesfully burned another pile of brush and now I'm pretty tired, and if you asked me how I feel right now, I'd have to say I'm firelogged.  Well, until next time, God Bless!

• Nov. 24, 2008 - I'm Thankful That I'm Not a Turkey...

Posted By Miranda
Yes, I too have noticed my irregular blogging pattern. I've been really busy and my blogging has suffered.  But I'm still here! I swear! I do blog... occasionally.  Anyways, is it really Thanksgiving already? Wow. We've been painting all week getting ready for relatives, and my youth group had a Thanksgiving party. It was so fun! We played hide-and-go-seek in the dark in my youth pastors yard and capture the flag and watched the Reluctant Astronaut. And, of course, there was an excellent Thanksgiving message. What's everyone else doing for Thanksgiving?

• Nov. 19, 2008 - My Birthday.

Posted By Joseph 4 Jesus

Well, on November 2nd it was my Birthday!  My Grandparents, and Aunt, Uncle and Cousins came over to celebrate it.  I had a great time!  My Grandmother's Birthday is a day before mine, so my Mom made two chocolate cakes.  Now on to the presents, First, I got a tobaggon that my sister made for me, I got a how Paul "Bear" Bryant turned the Tide picture, and then my Mom got me a real Lord Of The Rings Sting Sword replica!  All of my presents are awesome, I had a really good time, and that is pretty much all for now.  Okay then, pictures of my presents are coming soon, and some will have special effects, like the Sting Sword glowing blue, (Indicating that Orcs are near.)

GOD BLESS!!!

And until next time...

• Nov. 6, 2008 - Wonderful Jane Austen Era Patterns

Posted By Courtney

As homeschoolers we love to do things that bring what we are studying to life. My oldest daughter and I both love Jane Austen, so recently we ordered the "Elegant Ladies Closet" pattern from Sense and Sensibility Patterns . It arrived quickly and we were so pleased with the quality. We have not completed the project yet, but are excited to see the final product. Now it even easier to use these patterns as they have just made them available as e-patterns available for instant download! What a cool idea! Regency Gown Pattern
