Works for Me Wednesday - Saving our Stories
Are you a scrapbooker? Me too. Are you "behind"? Me too.
I found that in my scrapbooking, I was forever worrying about not capturing the stories that were happening right now, because I was scrapping swimming lessons from two years ago! So, I found the solution. I started keeping little spiral-bound pads of paper everywhere. All over the house... the bathroom, the kitchen table, by the stove, by my bed, in my purse, and even in my car. Anytime something happens, whether it be a funny conversation, an incident, a memory from someplace we just returned from, or a memory I thought I had long forgotten, I write it down, right then and there. That way the memory is captured on paper even if it's not yet in my scrapbook.
But that's just the first part of the solution. The second part involves a checkbook- sized accordian file or coupon organizer. I took the organizer and labeled the pockets. Each child has a pocket. Then some pockets say things like long-forgotten memories, great quotes, marriage, traditions, events. Every once in a while, I grab all my little paper pads, get my file, and begin filing each little slip of paper behind the correct tab. Yes, the file is getting full, but the memory is captured and ready to be scrapped.
When I get ready to scrap, I always make sure I have my file. I simply pull out a quote or a story and find the pictures that might go with it. Instant scrapbook page full of memories that I wanted to capture! This has freed me up a bit from the chronological scrapbook that I simply can't keep up on. It's also relieved my mind to know that even if I'm not scrapbooking a memory right away, it's still on paper and I won't forget it.
I encourage you to try it. It works for me! See other Works for Me Wednesday Posts here.

Five Great Things About Today
In an effort to "think on good things" as I so often encourage ds4 to do, here is my list of Five Great Things About Today:
* I got to play Candyland with my oldest two children.
* Tried a great new low-fat crockpot chicken recipe. It was a hit with hubby!
*Spent time with my super mentor getting ready for Bible study and our leadership appreciation luncheon for tomorrow.
*Finally finished preparing to teach Mark 2 tomorrow at Bible study.
*I'm DD15 months' favorite person in the whole wide world!
This is a great thing to scrapbook, by the way. A real look at your day-to-day life. When people look at my albums, they always comment on my "ten great things about today" page. It records a snapshot in time in a unique way that you'll cherish as you look back - the everyday things that you might not remember. For my "ten great things about today" page, I stuck a photo on that happened at around the same time as I wrote the original list, added the list to my scrapbook page, and voila, instant slice-of-life captured! A finished scrapbook page. You should try it too!
Hope you had some great things happen to you today, too!
