From the Heart...

• May. 29, 2006 - A stirring in my heart...

I was never very excited about history through my own schooling, but homeschooling with my DD is different.  The materials we use, the facts, and the anecdotes have changed since my younger days.  I enjoy learning about history now.

We just returned from a visit to Washington, DC ~ DD's first time.  I was there in 1980.  The weather was gorgeous the day we decided to walk from the Lincoln Memorial, along the Reflection Pool, to the Washington Memorial, the WWII Memorial and on to the Capitol Building.  The sky was bluer than blue with puffy white clouds.

I'd told DH and DD that the place that had stirred my heart on my first trip was the Lincoln Memorial.  It was the same this time.  Tears welled up in my eyes just looking at his likeness and as I completed the reading of the Gettysburg Address.  It was even more poignent this time, as Tiffani and I have read numerous books relating both sides of the Civil War ~ learning so much more than I'd learned in my history books.

Jane Austen novel quiz

The Pride and Prejudice type: Truly an Austenite, this type is a Romantic at heart, but they always keep their head and are wary of melodrama. Lively, clever, and independent. These people are easily amused by their own foibles and the quirkly foibles of others. They lament society today, and dream of the time when guys were gentlemen and girls were ladies.

Which Jane Austen Character Are You?

You're Mariane Dashwood from Sense & Sensibility! You are the romantic youngster, also found in Jane Austen's work as Catherine of Northanger Abbey and possibly Georgiana Darcy of Pride and Prejudice. You wander through life like Red Riding Hood in the forest, picking wildflowers and humming a happy song... and you can't see the wolf right in front of you! You wear your heart on your sleeve. No one need guess what you think.
