Frugal thoughts
I found a great recipe for homemade laundry soap here. I haven't been able to find the washing soda to make this, but I do have my own recipe to save money when it comes to laundry.
Instead of adding a full cap of laundry soap to your machine, add 1/2 that amount. Then add 1 cup of ammonia to your machine. Wash as usual. This works great for me. (If I'm doing a smaller load, I adjust the amount of ammonia accordingly.)
The homemade soap is a lot cheaper, but this works, too.
Note--NEVER mix ammonia with bleach. NEVER. NEVER. Creates a DEADLY GAS.
Also, don't mix with oxyclean, either.

Feb. 9, 2008 - Mmmmmmmmmmmmm......Purex!
Hey, Belynda! Thanks for stopping by!! I LOVE Purex and that is what I used to use for years. It always smells soooooooooooooo good!!! My daughter will not try my home made detergent so I told her she had to go buy her own then, so she still buys Purex. Every now and then I go in her room and take a "S-N-I-F-F". I am a huffer from way back. Candles and shampoo are my downfall! : > 0
I am very happy with the detergent that I use and I don't think I will ever go back to store bought!!
Please tell your husband that I will be careful not to mix the ammonia and bleach together. I LIKE MY LIFE TOO MUCH!!!
Blessings~

I am going to try this. Have you thought about joining in on tightwad Tuesday? You can find lots of good ideas even if you don't have a post.

I only use about 1/3 a cap for Tide; and never add Ammonia, but my clothes still come out clean most of the time. If I have a stain, I pour the Tide directly on it. Works all the time :) Of course, Tide is not very frugal :). Blessings, Amy B
