• Jan. 1, 2007 - Reflections

One thing our family has learned this past year is that every day is a gift from the Lord.  A year ago I had no idea that the Lord would call my mom home in June 2006.  I just assumed we would have years together.  Honestly, I would have written the script from this past year differently; but I know that I can trust God fully and I choose to put my trust in Him.

Recently we sang a song, at church, that has become a great encouragement to me.  Along with hymns, we sing many songs from Sovereign Grace Ministries.  Here are the lyrics:

God Moves

God moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform
He plants His footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm
Deep in His dark and hidden mines
With never-failing skill
He fashions all His bright designs
And works His sovereign will

So God we trust in You
O God we trust in You

O fearful saints new courage take
The clouds that you now dread
Are big with mercy and will break
In blessings on your head
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense
But trust Him for His grace
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face

So God we trust in You
O God we trust in You
When tears are great
And comforts few
We hope in mercies ever new
We trust in You

God’s purposes will ripen fast
Unfolding every hour
The bud may have a bitter taste
But sweet will be the flower
Blind unbelief is sure to err
And scan His work in vain
God is His own interpreter
And He will make it plain

My prayer for 2007 is that I will make more time sitting at my Savior's feet.  This is where I will be able to learn how to live each day to the fullest and be able to love my husband and children in the way He desires.  Being a homeschooling mom and homemaker keeps me so busy; but the time I spend with the Lord cannot be neglected.
May the Lord bless you richly in 2007.

I've never heard that song but love the lyrics. Thanks for sharing it. Starting the year off at the Savior's feet and continuing there daily is where I want to be as well. It is the only way that we can please Him in anything we do otherwise.

• Jan. 1, 2007 - Hi Julie,

I've been thinking about you these past few days, this first Christmas with your Mom in heaven. My dear father in law went home to be with the Lord on December 20, and was buried on the 23rd. Fortunately, homeschooling gave us the flexibility to be up in Michigan to spend a few days with him just the week before he died. We are so grateful for that. As you know, it is such a precious comfort to know our loved ones are safely home, but the sorrow of missing them is real too! All the very best to you all in 2007.
Love,
Eleanor

Thank you for that encouraging post. Your desire is mine as well. I pray that we will both succeed in deepening our relationship with God this year. Won't it be fun to look back and see the progress we've made?
I extend my continued sympathy over the loss of your dear mom. I think of her every time I click on your web page. May you draw strength from the love of the Heavenly Father for you. Blessings friend.

I've thought often the past few months of the reality that we really can't count on any more than just the moment with those we love.

I know that this has been a difficult time for you and I still pray daily for you.

Love,
Laurie

We lost my mil and sil this year. I can understand your feelings. I too would have written the script for 2006 differently. But, I am living in faith that His ways are much better than mine. I know you are too and pray you will have much healing from your loss in 2007.

You're in my thoughts and prayers! Your friendship means more to me than you'll ever know, Julie.

I, too, desire 2007 to be a year of fellowship with our Father. I'm so glad we're walking down the road of life together. ;>)
