Our plans for Rocky's Grade 2 year are quite similar to Mia's plans. We will be trying some things and see if they are a hit or miss. This past year, I didn't do history or science with him as we were concentrating on speech and reading. I have seen, though, an interest in him to learn about these subjects. Even though Rocky wasn't sitting in on our history readings, he would have Mia tell him all about what she learned after our reading was over. This was my first clue that maybe he was ready after all.
We will take things slowly this next year. We will be doing Bible history this year so if he shows an interest I will let him sit in. If not, then I will let him wait a year until he is in Grade 3 then we will officially start history with him. We will be doing Physics this coming year. There will be lots of experiments so I think Rocky will want to be included in this.
I will be following more of the Waldorf scope and sequence with Rocky this coming year. We will do a language arts block using animal stories (Just So Stories) and stories of the Saints (I think we will do the book that is written by Andrew Langley's wife. I can't remember the title right now.) We will also try our hand at narration using Aesop's Fables. We dabbled a bit with the Yr. 1 booklist this past year. We will finish the booklist during Grade 2.
Here are our plans for Rocky for the next school year.
Math--RightStart Math--Level C as well as the living math history plans written by Julie Brennan
Language Arts--copywork, OPGTR, ETC, SWO (I don't know whether I will continue with this or not. I don't like this for spelling but Rocky loves workbooks and does well with these. If we use them, they will be only for busywork.)
History--sitting in with Mia for Bible History
Science--sitting in with Mia's physics using Christian Kids Explore Physics as well as learning about animals habitats--biomes. Rocky will be using Science Works for this.
Geography--again will be sitting in with Mia learning about people around the world and how they live.
Spanish--Easy Spanish
