You can always tell when it has rained for a few days, my book count gets higher mighty fast. It has been raining here most of the week. Usually I don't read during the day but I make exceptions on rainy days. That is what rainy days were made for: reading. The best kind of reading on rainy days is fluff reading. After reading James Taylor book last week, I think I have earned a fluff book. Jane Austen Ruined My Life by Beth Patillo is the best book for this kind of reading.
This book does not sport the best of writing, but it does contain a wonderful storyline. The main character, Emma (you knew she had to have that name, didn't you?) is a college professor whose research and scholarly papers all have to do with Jane Austen. She is a bit obsessed with Jane Austen. This is why her husband's infidelity and her inevitable divorce has taken her for quite a loop. This is not how life is supposed to turn out, at least according to Miss Austen. Emma goes to London in search of some mysterious letters supposedly written by Miss Austen. She does this in hopes of saving her professional life as well as filling the void in her personal life.
This is such an enjoyable book. It is a perfect read for a rainy day. Oh, heck, it is a perfect read for any kind of day.
