Lonnie's Latest Results
Every few months, my husband has to go in for check-ups with his oncologist. This usually consists of an MRI and blood and urine tests. The last MRI checked only his neck, while the blood test looked for an increase in cancer cells and the urine test looked for Bence-Jones proteins (which, I believe, are identified with multiple myeloma only). They may have been looking for certain proteins in his blood, too, but right now I'm tired and my memory is not cooperating. And...Lonnie's asleep on the sectional, so asking him questions right now would be totally pointless on my part! (When you read this, honey, maybe you can leave a comment to correct or add something.)
The shocker was when he received back the results from the MRI. Since that is where the two tumors were, that is the area they recheck. It was evident on the screen that there was bone regrowth in his neck! Well, first of all, we didn't know the tumors had grown into the bones. This means that if the growth of the tumors had continued unchecked, his neck could have broken very easily and he may have ended up paralyzed or worse. May I stop here for just a second to reiterate what I've said before: GOD IS GOOD AND HIS TIMING IS PERFECT. Secondly, we were rather amazed at the bone regrowth because from what we (or should I say Lonnie, as I don't remember things as well as he does -- a side effect of my poor sleep habits, I'm sure) had understood, if bone regrowth needed to happen and was going to happen, it would have occurred within a couple of months of the last of the radiation treatments. Either way, it's good!
And can I brag on him just a bit? I've been needing a blender since the motor in my not-so-old food processor/blender burned up a couple of years ago. Okay, so I need a food processor, too. Anyway, I called him the other day to see if he'd stop at Linens and Things to pick up a Black & Decker blender that was $30, but only $10 after rebate. Definitely not top-of-the-line, but if it makes milkshakes, I'm happy. He didn't buy it. Instead, two days later, he took me out to dinner then to another store and bought me a KITCHEN AID blender. That's like getting a 2007 Chevy Tahoe (hint, hint) when you'd asked for a Kia to try to save money. This blender will last me until I'm 90! And it's red! Yeah, it's only a blender, but I wanted to share this with you to show you what kind of man he is. Definitely a keeper. I thank God for him.

About Me
Are you homeschooling ... anyway? Very few of us, if any, escape the tragedies and other disappointments of life. In the summer of 2004, we experienced a tragedy of our own with the death of our pre-born baby. It was a devastating blow, but that year we homeschooled ... anyway. We were blessed with another little one, but were soon face to face with my husband's cancer diagnosis (multiple myeloma) in early 2006. And again, we homeschooled...anyway. If you need support, encouragement, or just want to know what "a day in the life" is like for another family who chooses to continue homeschooling in spite of difficulties, stick around! I'm glad you're here, and that I can be here, too, to share the ups and downs (even the days when I feel like I'm skidding sideways) of our homeschooling family: Dad, Mom, two teenagers, a preteen, and a toddler. And be sure to visit my website: www.homeschoolinganyway.com. To everyone who signs up for my newsletter, I'm offering a free report filled with great tips for having a successful homeschool day.

Save your homeschooling memories with a photobook. When you're home with your kids
all day, you have so much to do and so little time. Scrapbooking is a nice idea...but most of us
never actually get around to it. Photobooks are a great alternative. You send in your pictures
(online), customize the photobook you want, and Snapfish.com does all the work for you.
All photobooks are currently 20% off, and new customers will also get 20 free prints.
And as we know...free is good!
We've all heard of VistaPrint's FREE Business Card promotion -- they've had it for quite some time now.
But what if you don't have a business? Tell you what: these cards are the perfect tool for busy homeschooling
moms who want to stay in touch with other busy homeschooling moms. Have some made out with your name,
phone number, email address, and website or blog info, and hand them out! It's so much easier
than having to drop everything to search for a piece of paper in your purse, only to end up writing
your phone number on a gum wrapper (been there...). Give VistaPrint a try (your friends will be impressed!).
Every homeschooling mom needs her own oasis, a place to recharge after a long day.
Be it a quiet nook in your bedroom, the den, or the bath, make it yours. Start with Candle Bay's very
affordable candles, reed diffusers, and more. Imagine: name brands we aren't being overcharged for!
