World's most boring blog......

So, I start a blog and then what happens?  Multiple auto repairs, stove needed replacing, two visits from the plumber, and oh yeah, the modem went out and we had connection problems even after it was replaced.

However, all of the above can be summed up as a chunk of money and a bit of time.  Money is replaceable.  Time, well I can't have it back, but there are much worse ways I could have spent those same hours.

One year later

On Labor Day weekend 2005 we moved our family to an older, ranch style, farm house on 40 acres.  It's quite a change from suburban living.  We still get out of the car some nights and just stare up at the night sky.  It's so beautiful.

We've traded in the sounds of traffic for the sounds of farm equipment, coyotes and the neighbor's roosters.  Maybe by next year we will have our own feathered alarm clock.

We've gained pets.  The house came with six cats.  One of the original cats is still here and she presented us with five kittens.  David got his first dog shortly after we moved in.

We've traded household storage space, for outdoor living space - trees to climb, ponds full of frogs, and room to run.

We have almost finished burning two huge piles of brush and assorted stuff the previous owners left.  An old chicken coop/shed has been dismantled and burned on the spot.  We only managed to salvage a little of the wood.  The rest was too rotten.  An old barn has almost finished falling down and Jon has been dismantling it little by little.  We've fenced in a garden spot and learned what not to do in the garden next year.

It's been a year full of blessings.  I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress another year will bring.  Chickens? Goats? Honeybees?
