Okay, not doom, but seriously bordering something resembling doom. The science curriculum this year focuses on biology, which I suppose is important. However, does it really require me to introduce meal worms into my house (albeit in a jar) well, folks, it indubitably does! Ick!
Meal worms for those unaccustomed to the term, are not worms, but rather giant maggot looking larval insects that turn into beetles which are also fairly icky. They will grow from the larval slimey wiggle thing, into a pupa and finally into a bug. The whole process takes about 2 weeks, which is enough time to ick me out, and also a short enough time to keep interest for small children.
Hopefully I can get through the whole ordeal without any mishaps or misandry. (Misandry of course because hubby found the stupid science book.........grr! In fact, I'm fairly sure some "man's man" came up with the whole "lets grow meal worms!" lab to begin with! Surely a woman, an intelligent woman, would have chosen butterflies!)
While planning and failing I found a website. HotChalk is a free online planner book for teachers and homeschool educators. It seems to work great. I haven't poked around much but they have other tools available as well as links to other great teaching helps.
Hopefully this year I can stay on track and we can finish everything when we're supposed to. Meal worms and all. Did I mention ICK?!
