In the summertime, there are always fun library reading programs. Last year, my daughter participated in the one at our local library that consisted of reading books, then putting a sticker on a chart that they gave her at the beginning of the program (complete with stickers).
At certain increments she would come to a special spot on the chart that meant she was to bring the chart in and get a prize. She very much enjoyed working her way through the chart and bringing it in to receive her prizes.
The prizes started out small and got more elaborate as she progressed through the chart's path. Her first prize was a sticker; later, one of the prized she received was a 3" stuffed animal and at the end of the chart they gave her an electronic bookmark that would keep track of how much time was spent reading.
It was fun, free, and I thought it was a really great learning experience (besides the books themselves) in her learning to work through something from start to finish.
It is easy to find a local library around you. Just click here to do a search. (The quickest way that I have found is, up above, on the left-hand side where it says, "I'm looking for a...", click the "Library" button, type in the name of your town and click "go."
It will bring up a list of all of the libraries (that are listed in the directory - that is) both public and private.
