American Philatelic Society - Stamp Collecting Clubs in Kansas

If you or your kids ever wanted to get into stamp collecting, this is a great place to start. The American Philatelic Society has great resources just for kids or for the young at heart! Here are some of the resources they offer:
  • On the Trail with Lewis and Clark -- Join in the adventure of the Corps of Discovery, during the two hundredth anniversary celebration, 2003–2006.
  • Beginners Information -- Some great reading materials available for the beginner (with links to some great resources).
  • New Arrivals -- See what new stamps are being released.
  • Frequently Asked Questions? -- Find the answers to some of the most often asked questions.
  • Activity Pages -- Share in STAMP FUN activities available for anyone! These are also a great source for club leaders looking for stamp-related activities.
  • Fun Facts -- Discover some unusual, interesting hobby-related facts. For example, did you know that cats delivered mail?
  • Other Youth Links -- Check out some other Web sites that we think help promote Stamp Collecting for Kids.

Kids/Youth Stamp Clubs

The APS offers a program entitled "All*Star Stamp" Club. It is a club for youth, run by a local leader, such as you. Each club member would receive a certificate of membership and a wallet card to carry that says they belong to the All*Star Stamp Club. They also receive a card and philatelic souvenir on their birthday, if the leader has parental permission to release the names to the APS Youth Coordinator.

The local club leader receives material at least 3 times a year to help with the club - stamps, covers, stamp mounts, and other material that is donated for the APS youth programs. You also receive an All*Star Leader Letter that contains useful information about using stamps in the classroom and other stamp collecting information. All of this for just $10 per year. (This is a single fee for the club. There is no fee to the APS for each of your individual club members.)

Currently, many of our clubs are homeschool groups. Most clubs like to make their own special name - such as the "Super Stampers" or whatever they like.

(Note: At the writing of this post, there are no kids/youth stamp clubs in Kansas. If you would like to start one, please contact Janet Houser, Education and Program Director.)
