Spring

Well it appears that Spring is here, and with it comes the last few weeks of school, at least for some. Teachers and students alike are looking forward to the break, which I can understand completely. Something we homeschoolers need to remember, whether you are new to homeschooling, or an old pro, is that we need to find a schedule that works for us!!

When I started homeschooling my girls a little over a year ago, I tried to stick to a "school" schedule, that basically mirrored the public system's schedule. Well, with my schedule, I quickly discovered that a regular school schedule was out of the question! I was upset....concerned, and just didn't know what to do!! I had made the choice to homeschool my girls, and than I felt that I wasn't living up to my end of the bargain, so to speak. We diddled around for a few weeks, while I tried to figure out what to do, during which I thought about putting them back in public school, on the basis that at least they would be doing school, even if it wasn't the best choice...Well, after acouple of weeks, I decided that we would try this again...so we got out the workbooks, and the reading books, and had at it again...Only this time, thanks to some wonderfully encouraging words from a friend, I was a lot less worried about sticking to a schedule...

Now, we do school how it works for us. Sometimes that means on weekends, or late at night...Other times it means we don't do school 5 days a week...Some days we get extra work done, and other days, we don't get it all done. But this is how it works for my girls and I....

Now, re-evaluate what you are doing, or what you are planning, and take time to think if this really works for you!! If it doesn't, change your schedule to suit you and your life...That's part of what homeschooling is all about!!

Blessings all!!!

Vicki
