Purpose

The History Channel has Multidisciplinary Teacher's Manuals Available to Educators on a Complimentary Basis (a.k.a. FREE!)


Historians and other educators at The History Channel are creating multidisciplinary teacher's manuals, available to educators on a complimentary basis. Each manual features primary sources, portfolio projects, vocabulary, and creative activities. Join teachers around America and get your students involved in the Save Our History initiative, where history combines with science, math, geography, and language arts topics to bring the past alive in the classroom. Indicate the manual of your choice. You may order all of the manuals listed.

The Declaration of Independence. Save Our History: The Declaration of Independence, sponsored by AT&T, features the history of the original declaration and the preservation efforts currently underway at the National Archives. Science, math, and language arts projects are included, along with primary historical sources. Our supporting on-line exhibit is available by clicking here. Suitable for grades 2 through 12.

The Missouri River: A Journey with Stephen Ambrose. Save Our History: The Missouri River, in partnership with the American Rivers Organization, features the history of the Missouri River, including the Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery, Native American history, settlement and steam boats, plus an examination of the environmental history of the Missouri River. Science, math, and language arts projects are included, along with primary historical sources. Our supporting on-line exhibit is available by clicking here. Suitable for grades 4 through 12.

The National World War II Memorial. Save Our History:The National World War II Memorial, developed in partnership with the National World War II Memorial Campaign, features creative materials on teaching World War II, plus suggestions for supporting the national effort to recognize the heroism and contributions of all of those - at the front and at home - who contributed to the World War II effort. Science, math, and language arts projects are included, along with extensive primary historical sources, a glossary and resource list. Our supporting on-line exhibit is available by clicking here. Suitable for grades 4 through 12.

The White House. The White House 200 th Anniversary integrates art, music, geography, literature and language arts curriculum through a variety of activities designed expressly to enrich teaching the 200th anniversary of "The People's House". A glossary and a list of resources are also included. Our supporting on-line exhibit is available by clicking here. The materials found in this manual are suitable for grades K through 12.

Looking for some free homeschooling items? Free homeschooling items really do exist! Free homeschooling helps can be fun, informative and can also open up another world of possibilities in some areas. Like... like podcasts for instance. :)


Weekly 30 Minute Podcast:

There is a curriculum called Five in a Row that is soon to be producing their own weekly podcast called, "Teach Them Gently." It will be a 30 minute program covering three segments each week and listeners can call 1-866-9GENTLY with their questions. Read more about the upcoming podcast from Five in a Row Publisher, Steve Lambert in his post he made in the Five in a Row forum.

(Special Note: in order to listen to a podcast, then organize your downloads just download and install a free program like iTunes and you'll be set.)


American History Study via a Jamestown Replica:

400 years since the establishment of Jamestown, the first permanent British settlement established on May 14, 1607. Wow! And in celebrating, Home School in the Woods is giving away a free download that will enable you to create your own replica of Jamestown complete with directions and masters here.

(Special Note: if you do not already have the free program called Adobe Reader installed on your computer, you'll need to download it here in order to read and print-out the downloaded Jamestown directions files. After installing Adobe Reader, you'll be able to read any .pdf file you download or receive from anyone. It is a must-have program.)
