Curriculum Round Up
Some
days getting ready for the new homeschool year seems as daunting as
taming the wild west or as monumental as packing up our lives in a
covered wagon and searching for gold. Like the pioneers from long ago, plans must be carefully made. After
a meticulous study of the paths taken by others and the items they have
chosen for their journey, we have our supplies for our homeschool
journey and are almost ready for the new school year to begin.
Take a peek inside our wagon;

Video Text Algebra
English Grammar and Composition using Learning Language Arts Through Literature
Apologia Science – We will finish General Science and begin Physical Science
World Geography using the Trail Guide to World Geography and The Ultimate Geography and Timeline books. I also have a collection of maps from Knowledge Adventure and Uncle Josh's Outline Maps.
Speech using Art of Eloquence
World War II using various books, read alouds, internet research and notebooking
Life Skills - using my house! LOL
Holly
Language Arts, Math and Science – Notebooking! More on that later but we are going to concentrate on reading and phonics using her favorite scrapbooking supplies.
World Geography (see above) One thing I love about these books is that they are multi age and can be used for years.
On
any given trip I am the Queen of Packs too Much and I am sure that this
one is no exception. Something may need to get tossed along the
way if we feel our load is too heavy to pull over the Rocky Mountains
of Homeschool (AKA Life). Also, since I tend to be completely disorganized and flakey eclectic, I may change my mind along the way as I see the need.

I love the disorganized/flakey/eclectic. Just yesterday my daughter was asking who is Charlotte Mason, What is Classical Education, what do WE use and I had to say, "Uh .... let's call it eclectic"
I'm glad to hear, too, that other people find this getting ready daunting. I am feeling so discouraged and overwhelmed at the thought of planning a new year. It's hard to treat it as a new year and not be all wrapped up in last year's failures.

We're studying world geography this year, too, and I've planned way more than we can possibly do. But I think that's good. This way we can pick and choose. I plan some updates at my blog (www.semicolonblog.com) along the way, so you might check it out if you run out of inspiration.
I can't promise inspiration, but maybe . . .

It IS hard to face another year. Rounding up enthusiasm for the road ahead is probably the hardest task to do while enjoying summer relaxation.
I enjoyed the insight into your curriculum. It's fun to hear what others are doing, and using at school.
Praying that you will face this new year with confidence, and patience. Blessings, Jan

That's right, eclectic is a great replacement for flakey...well, I don't know, flakey seems to fit our school most days! Love the photo of your children. We use videotext algebra, too. It really seems to click for DS. Sounds like you're very organized :)
