Reading Aloud and Comprehension
Reading
aloud has always been our favorite time of the day. Being a kinesthetic learner, I understand
that it is easier to focus on the spoken word if my hands are somehow occupied.
So I have always allowed my children to do something quietly like drawing,
making necklaces with beads or playing with legos. I can tell that they are listening and
comprehending when they laugh at something humorous or ask the meaning of an
unfamiliar word.
Today we were reading a chapter from The Hiding Place. The Ten
Boom house was being raided by the enemy.
Tension was in the air and my audience listened eagerly as I read to
them the account of all the details that family had to take care of in order to
hide the precious souls living in their home.
Corrie Ten Boom saw a briefcase that was filled with names and addresses
and she said, “And then my eye fell on the briefcase…” Before I could finish the sentence, Holly
responded with, “EWWWW!” I could just
see Holly’s thoughts, thinking that Corrie’s eye literally fell on the
briefcase. I stopped and explained the
meaning to her. I have been laughing all
day.

That is hilarious. Their minds are so literal sometimes!
What is the grammatical term for that kind of expression? I cannot think of it for the life of me.

I don't know the name of that grammatical expression either. If anyone does, please tell me! I could look it up but I'm too busy blogging ; )

ROFL. That gave me quite a chuckle too. Especially because it was at such a tense moment.
I've given Cameron his writing assignment (making a row of one particular letter or another) while reading to him. I was surprised at what he was picking up.

Hah! That IS funny! It's interesting how kids think, and how they process information. Ha! No wonder you were laughing all day.

Hello, I'm new on your blog. Just another example from my son, one that kept me laughing for days. My husband was reading and memorizing with him some verses in Prov. 3. In Romanian, Prov. 3: 6 reads: "In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall smoothen thy paths." (instead of "direct they paths"). After reading it, my son comments: "At that time they didn't have roadrollers." :-) :-) :-)
